From Light-Touch to Macroprudentialism: How the 2008 Global Financial Crisis Transformed UK Financial Regulation (2008–2020)

Please Individualresearch project (3,000 words; 50% of total mark) The purpose of the individual research project assignment is to conduct original research on a topic of your choice. The foundation for the project should be the collection and analysis of raw data, e.g. from databases, census statistics, treaties, agreements, regulations, speeches, interviews, surveys, press conference transcripts, parliamentary debates, hearings, and/or any other sources relevant to your project. Sections 8-10 provide a collection of sources that will give you an idea about the type of data to be used; but it is likely that you will have to access other sources as well. You may also wish to produce your own primary data by conducting interviews, questionnaires/surveys, direct/participant observations and/or other methods (note that you are not expected to produce your own data and will not be penalised for not doing so). Secondary literature (e.g. books, academic articles, working papers and other analytical writings) should be used to frame your analysis, but its basis should be original research. Further guidelines on the research project will be made available on KEATS. For general information on the design and conduction of social science research, you may wish to consult: For this assignment, it is advisable to first decide on one of the broader topics from the module (see section 6). It is recommended that you do the necessary readings from the topic(s) you may wish to select. Once you have chosen a general topic, you need to think about the specific question that you would like to answer. The question needs to be sufficiently specific. For example, questions such as ‘is the renminbi poised to become a widely used currency’, ‘are IMF bailout programmes good for recipient countries?’’ would be too broad for this assignment. Questions such as ‘what have been the effects of IMF bailout programmes post2007 on the banking sector of Central and Eastern European recipient countries?’ or ‘how did predatory lending contribute to the onset of the Global Financial Crisis in the United States’ would be better suited for this assignment.
