Research Proposal:<\/h3>\n
Develop a Research Proposal for your project (Literature map or the rationale for your paper): That is, what is the paper about, why it is worth researching (justification) and how do you plan to do your research? This is when you begin to collect materials for your paper and where you\u2019re going to get them.<\/div>\n

The big picture! (Roe & den Ouden, 2018, p.24). Understanding and working with the literature is an integral part of this project. It will allow you to identify research gaps, justify additional research, and situate your work in the existing scholarship. The purpose of this assignment is for you to begin to map the terrain you will be navigating or exploring in your project or chosen topic by locating and engaging with some of the literature on the same (or a similar) topic. Please note that this is not an extensive literature review but a map\/proposal of where and what resources you will be using. However, I do recommend that in the course of your search, you download and save a selection of related scholarly works, which will aid you in writing your paper.<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
Things you might want to consider as you embark on this assignment:<\/div>\n
a. Why is your topic important? Who benefits from your topic (e.g., is it a policy for government, advocacy groups, community organizations, others, etc.)?<\/div>\n
b. Students should be \u201cengaged by their topic\u201d (Roe & den Ouden, 2018, p.13). Your topic is important to you, personally or professionally.<\/div>\n
c. What external evidence are you going to use for your research: journals, textbooks, government documents, personal communication, and\/or news media (Roe & den Ouden, 2018, p.14).<\/div>\n
d. Where are you going to look? Be specific; identify a few journals, textbooks, etc. This is known as the \u201cresearch site\u201d (Roe & den Ouden, 2018, p.20).<\/div>\n
e. What are your primary, secondary and tertiary sources?<\/div>\n

Following your research proposal, write a one (1) page outline of your research paper topic<\/span><\/span><\/h4>\n

This is the frame of your paper, like the frame of a house. This is the process where you begin to visualize your paper, and how it will look when it is done. It will assist you in staying on track with your proposed topic as you begin to write your paper. It is understandable that as your paper takes shape, you might need to make some changes to your topics or your paper’s frame.<\/span><\/h3>\n

Things you might want to consider when writing the outline of your paper:<\/span><\/p>\n

a)\t<\/span>You have now begun thinking about a topic (Begin using your notebook.). Ask yourself, what is the injustice or problem I wish to solve? And, what proof or evidence do I have to present that it is an injustice or problem?<\/span><\/p>\n

b)\t<\/span>Does the injustice or problem relate to a criminal or social justice issue in either a Canadian, international, or Canadian-related context?<\/span><\/p>\n

c)\t<\/span>Brainstorm ideas and make a list in your notebook of possible topics: discuss this with your Instructor, other students, The TAs or another JS faculty.<\/span><\/p>\n

d)\t<\/span>Your project should be a topic that strongly interests you.<\/span><\/p>\n

e)\t<\/span>Your project should be creative: avoid topics that have been done repeatedly (e.g., tough on crime).<\/span><\/p>\n

f)\t<\/span>Your project idea of injustice or a problem must be supported by some proof or evidence that is directly observable or reported. That is to say, I should be able to replicate your observation or find your report.<\/span><\/p>\n
