An annotated bibliography is a list
\nof citations followed by brief (200ish word) descriptive and evaluative
\nparagraphs for each reference<\/span>.  <\/span>It is
\na compilation of the sources you will draw upon for writing your literature
\nreview.  <\/span>Your annotated bibliography
\nshould contain 15-20 peer-reviewed, scholarly
\nsources published between 2014 and 2024<\/b>. 
\n<\/span>Annotations should summarize the findings and ideas relevant to your
\nresearch, highlighting any weaknesses or biases in the material.  <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Citations:<\/span><\/u>       <\/span>Your
\nalphabetized list of citations should be in APA format. For each journal
\narticle, include the author, date of publication, title of article, title of
\njournal, volume and page numbers.  <\/span>Books
\nshould also include information on place of publication and publisher.  <\/span>Examples and instructions for other sources,
\nsuch as white papers, fact sheets, and technical reports are posted on Sakai
\nunder Resources.<\/span><\/p>\n

The
\nProcess:<\/span><\/u>  <\/span> <\/span>After
\nyou have identified your research question you will:<\/span><\/p>\n

1)     <\/span><\/span><\/span>Read
\nscholarly writings related to your subject. Focus on journal articles, book
\nchapters, government publications, and other peer-reviewed sources.  <\/span>Read the abstract and summaries before
\nselecting which documents to read in full. 
\n<\/span>Select the sources most useful for your research published 2014-2024.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

2)     <\/span><\/span><\/span>Cite the
\ntext in APA style. Citations accompanied by their annotations should be
\nalphabetized by authors\u2019 last names.<\/span><\/p>\n

3)     <\/span><\/span><\/span>Write a
\nconcise, 200ish-word annotation that (a) summarizes the main ideas of the text and
\n(b) evaluates it.  <\/span>Identify what is
\nuseful about the text for your research and note any weaknesses. You can
\ncompare how a document relates to another cited work, critique authors\u2019
\nviewpoints, highlight methodological problems, or point out flaws in arguments.  <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Writing
\nStyle:<\/span><\/u> Annotated bibliographies are formal types of academic writing.  <\/span>Be sure to:<\/span><\/p>\n

\nsentences with no contractions.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Be concise, referring to only the most significant
\nideas in the texts that are related to your RQ. <\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Do NOT describe methodological details unless it is
\ncritical to the source and how you plan to use it.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Your paragraphs should NOT repeat information that
\nis already in your citation, such as titles.<\/span><\/p>\n

Research
\nQuestion:<\/span><\/u>  <\/span>How and why do
\njob stress and job satisfaction vary across upper, middle, and lower classes? <\/span><\/p>\n

Ehrenreich, B. (2014). Nickel and dimed: On (not) getting by in
\nAmerica<\/i>. New York: Henry Holt and Company.<\/span><\/p>\n

This nonfiction book is based on an experienced journalist\u2019s investigation
\nof whether it is possible for someone to live on a minimum-wage in America.
\nTaking jobs as a waitress, a maid in a cleaning service, and a Walmart sales
\nemployee, Ehrenreich summarizes and reflects on her work, her relationships
\nwith fellow workers, and her financial struggles in each situation. Most
\nrelevant for my research, Ehrenreich describes what it like to work hard, long
\nhours but still be unable to afford basic housing and food.  <\/span>Her employers were harsh and unsympathetic to
\npoor working conditions.  <\/span>Ehrenreich
\nhighlights numerous sources of job stress, including physical exhaustion, fear
\nof violence, and lack of opportunities to move to higher paying positions.  <\/span>Ehrenreich conducted her research in
\n1998.  <\/span>Her findings on the working poor
\nduring a strong economy may not be as relevant for people in 2024.  <\/span>Furthermore, as a White woman, Ehrenreich did
\nnot experience racial discrimination and prejudice that so many low-income
\nworkers endure.  <\/span>Furthermore, she did not
\nface the additional struggle of parenting during her experiment.  <\/span>Thus, the book does not rely on nationally
\nrepresentative data nor reflect the full range of stressors low income workers
\nendure. Ehrenreich\u2019s research does, however, concur with Kossek and Lautsch\u2019s
\n(2018) finding that work flexibility is rarely available to low wage earners,
\nlimiting their life flexibility and increasing their stress.   <\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Kish-Gephart, J. et al. (2023). Social class
\nand work: A review and organizing framework. Journal of Management<\/i>, 49<\/i>(1),

            <\/span>The authors review and synthesize
\n400+ multi-disciplinary research articles on social class and work. They find
\nthat workers\u2019 mobility within and between organizations is influenced by
