Each of the essays will be an analysis of the novel you choose through the lens of a critical theory. <\/span>A literary analysis essay through the lens of a critical theory explains how a text works or what it means in light of the theory through which the text is examined.  For each essay, you will have more than one theory from which to select. Essay #1 will apply either Psychoanalytic Criticism or Marxist Criticism. Essay #2 will apply Feminist Criticism or African American Criticism\/Critical Race Theory. Essay #3 will use Gay\/Lesbian\/Queer Theory or New Historicism\/Cultural Criticism. Essay #4 will analyze one of the texts through the lens of Structuralism or Deconstructionism.  <\/span>Please note that each essay is a specific application of a theory. For the purposes of this class, I am not interested in whether or not you agree with a particular theory or not. I am only interested in your ability to demonstrate that you understand and can apply the theory. <\/strong><\/p>\n
