Students should prepare for this exam by consulting the \u201cThesis Exercises: A User\u2019s Guide\u201d PowerPoint published under the syllabus in Brightspace, which explains how to conceptualize (only) the first paragraph of this exam.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>An \u201cA\u201d grade will deploy the following materials in support of an original thesis:<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>1\/ Primary evidence in quotation from one or more of the following primary sources:<\/div>\n<div>Week # 1\u200bMandeville &#8220;Fable of the Bees&#8221;<\/div>\n<div>Week #2\u200bRousseau &#8220;First Discourse Part 1&#8221;<\/div>\n<div>Week #3\u200bFerguson &#8220;Essay on the History of Civil Society Part 1-4&#8221;<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>2\/ Secondary evidence from the After Adam Smith by Murray Milgate and Shannon Stimson.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>3\/ Contextual evidence from lectures.  You should resist \u2013 at all costs \u2013 the temptation to make your exam a retelling of a lecture: there are a few of these every year and they invariably fail.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>Each of these components will be equally weighted.
