There are two parts to this assignment:<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><strong style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Part 1: The Proposal<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">There are three steps to completing this part.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><strong style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Step 1 \u2013 Identifying the Issue<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Identify an issue that involves federalism, then conduct research on how both the US federal government and Texas state government addressing it (this requires examining the history, application and effectiveness of laws at both levels).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Pick one of the following topics:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">\n<li style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Women\u2019s rights and funding for family planning<\/li>\n<li style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Women\u2019s rights and access to abortion services<\/li>\n<li style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Public education policy and funding<\/li>\n<li style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Public education policy and Common Core<\/li>\n<li style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Environmental policy and air pollution<\/li>\n<li style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Environmental policy and hydraulic fracking<\/li>\n<li style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Affordable Care Act and Medicaid funding<\/li>\n<li style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Joint law enforcement efforts to combat drug trafficking<\/li>\n<li style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Joint law enforcement efforts to combat human trafficking<\/li>\n<li style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Texas Voter ID Law and the Voting Rights Act (1965)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><strong style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Step 2 &#8211; Gathering Sources<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Conduct research to locate&nbsp;<strong style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">three peer-reviewed academic journal articles<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp;<\/span>(aka: scholarly sources) that specifically address the policy issue that you selected and meet the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">\n<li style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><strong style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Books will not count toward the minimum research requirements.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Carefully choose those sources that provide a variety of perspectives on your selected topic.<\/li>\n<li style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">In addition to the minimum research requirements, you should offer \u201csupplemental sources\u201d for essential current events information relevant to your topic. These may include academic sources that are not peer-reviewed (position papers), newspaper articles, magazine articles, and other quality or reputable sources.<\/li>\n<li style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Textbooks, Dictionaries, Encyclopedias (including Wikipedia), Almanacs, or an Atlas are reference materials and&nbsp;<span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">are not considered peer-reviewed<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Provide the formal MLA citation for each source, both in the essay and on the works cited page.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><strong style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Step 3 \u2013 The Proposal<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Submit a one-page proposal to the appropriate&nbsp;dropbox&nbsp;by the date specified in the course calendar. The proposal is to contain the following:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">\n<li style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Identify the topic in a single paragraph by:\n<ul style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">\n<li style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Include a bibliography listing the three primary sources.
