This research will explore the comparative efficacy and benefits of<br \/>\nthese two instructional methodologies in fostering learning outcomes and skill<br \/>\ndevelopment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 200%; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">According<br \/>\nto Kagan (2009), In a traditional classroom, the teacher may provide some<br \/>\ndirect instruction, then do a whole class question-and-answer session. During<br \/>\nthe question-and-answer session, the teacher usually asks questions, then has<br \/>\nstudents raise their hands to volunteer answers. Alternatively, the teacher may<br \/>\nask a question, and nominate a student to respond. Finally, the teacher may<br \/>\nassign an activity for individual work and have the students independently<br \/>\npractice the new skill.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 200%; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Kagan<br \/>\n(2009) also states that choosing a cooperative learning structure over<br \/>\ntraditional methods creates a dramatic positive difference in English language<br \/>\nlearning.<span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp; <\/span>What works for some, may not<br \/>\nwork well for everyone. Therefore, we need a variety of strategies to reach and<br \/>\nteach our students with different learning styles and intelligences. If we<br \/>\nalways use lectures and independent exercises, we may inadvertently create<br \/>\nbarriers to English learning for many students. If, instead, we use a variety of<br \/>\nstructures as we teach, we engage the different learning styles and students&#8217;<br \/>\nmultiple intelligences.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 200%; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Collaborative learning refers to<br \/>\nsituations and environments in which learners engage in common tasks and each<br \/>\nindividual capitalizes on resources and skills from one another (Bruffee 1993;<br \/>\nDillenbourg 1999; Mitnik et al. 2009). <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 200%; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">In collaborative learning, the learning<br \/>\nbehavior of students working collaboratively is more complicated than that of<br \/>\nindividual learning (Hackman and Morris, 1975). Cooperative group learning<br \/>\ninvolves collaborative efforts among peers to achieve a common learning goal.<br \/>\nIt emphasizes communication, teamwork, and collective problem-solving. This method is often<br \/>\npreferred by introverted learners or those who thrive in self-paced<br \/>\nenvironments. It has been demonstrated that group assessments may not<br \/>\naccurately reflect individual achievements in collaborative learning (Saner et<br \/>\nal. 1994; Webb 1993; Webb et al. 1998). Especially in heterogeneous groups with<br \/>\nstudents having various ability levels, low-ability students may obtain higher<br \/>\ngrades from group assessments that are achieved based on the contributions of<br \/>\ntheir high-ability teammates (Saner et al. 1994). <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 200%; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">The effectiveness of each approach<br \/>\nlargely depends on various factors, including the subject matter, the nature of<br \/>\nthe task, the learners&#8217; preferences, and the specific learning objectives.
