The traditional \u201cnatural\u201d model of heterosexual parents corpulating and biologically giving birth to their children, has been changed by<span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<ol style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">\n<li style=\"font-size: 11px; line-height: normal; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">adoptions \u2014&gt; being able to choose their offsprings ==&gt; reproduction is no longer bound by the bio-normative standards + the act of procuring a child becomes more of social event rather than a biological process + the parents can in some way control more the type of off-springs they get (Paul)<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 11px; line-height: normal; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">surrogacies \u2014&gt; outsourcing the process of pregnancy alienates the \u201cnatural\u201d process of reproduction + the birth parents would not experience such a gradual ontic change that they would have had during the pregnancy phase to become so biologically bonded to the child (Paul\/ Brennan and Jaworski\/ Anderson)<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 11px; line-height: normal; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">modifications and\/ or genetic enhancements \u2014&gt; being able to explicitly select their children\u2019s characteristics (Kamm\/ Brennan and Jaworski\/ Chambers)<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 11px; line-height: normal; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">the direct influence of socio-political factors \u2014&gt; one-child policies\/ abortion rights \u2014&gt; the consideration of bearing children are much more intentional<span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp;(Could drop if too tangentially related)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"font-size: 11px; line-height: normal; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">All of these elements push toward a more \u201calienated\u201d and potentially \u201cexploitative\u201d relationship between the parent and child, that\u2019s close to that of a producer and a product, that is very explicitly and accurately imagined in Aldous Huxley\u2019s <i style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Brave New World<\/i>, where the selection, conditioning, making, and destiny of the child sets in far before it\u2019s born; and the act of reproduction is under complete control. (This should be mentioned as a &#8220;thought experiment of some sort, since this paper is still supposed to be leaning more toward an analytical philosphy appraoch). And&nbsp;<span style=\"color: inherit; background-color: var(--color-6); font-variant-caps: inherit;\">Compared to the traditional models, the parents\u2019 control over the child\u2019s life has expanded tremendously, and the child loses a sense of freedom or autonomy, as their identity formation becomes much less the result of their own \u201cnatural\u201d growth but the intentional making of the parents.
