\nmajor project is to address a current problem that does not have a

\nunremarkable will give you little to build upon for the later phases.
\nAnnotated bibliography entries combine a complete bibliographic entry
\nfor each source in a discipline-specific format (usually MLA or APA;
\nconsult the instructor if you\u2019re thinking of working with a different
\nstyle guide) with a brief but insightful annotation providing commentary
\n on the source. We\u2019ll be using the Purdue OWL model for annotations for
\nthis class, which sets three specific goals for an annotation: summarize <\/em>the source, assess <\/em>the source\u2019s value for academic writing, and reflect <\/em>on the usefulness of the source to your own work.<\/p>\n

Summary is not difficult, but the other two parts give many students
\ntrouble: writing a good annotation often requires the ability to see the
\n bigger picture of how specific sources fit into the overall landscape
\nof knowledge on the topic. Students who struggle with this assignment
\ntypically do so because they overload their annotations with too much
\nsummary and not enough of the other two elements.<\/p>\n

The skill of finding sources via research, evaluating their
\ncredibility and usefulness, and conveying that information to scholarly
\npeers is used throughout academia; annotated bibliographies are known by
\n various names depending on the discipline, such as \u201cliterature reviews\u201d
\n or \u201cstate of the subject reports.\u201d Expect to spend plenty of time
\napplying information literacy strategies from the Wake Tech Libraries’
\nResearch Guide on Fake News as you judge what your fellow professionals
\nshould know about your chosen topic.<\/p>\n

Your annotated bibliography must be at least 900 words long.<\/i>
\nThe final length depends on the topic you\u2019re researching: if a topic
\ndoesn\u2019t have much written about it, the content will be necessarily
\nshorter, and that may prompt you to consider adjusting your topic. On
\nthe other hand, a topic that\u2019s extensively covered doesn\u2019t necessarily
\nrequire documenting every piece of available writing: the goal is to
\nguide your colleagues researching the same general subject to the best<\/span> or most important<\/span>
\n sources and providing valuable advice on what to look for as well as
\nwhat to avoid. Avoid popular sources such as blog posts and other
\nwebpages found via casual Google search: your audience is professional
\nand scholarly in nature, and the sources you direct them toward should
\nbe likewise. Use peer-reviewed sources when available, located via
\npublications within your discipline and through academic resources such
\nas library collections and databases.<\/p>\n

Submit your annotated bibliography as a Word (.doc[x]) or Adobe
\n(.pdf) file only to the assignment link no later than the end of the day
\n (11:59pm Eastern) on Tuesday, February 6, 2024. Format your document
\naccording to your chosen style (again, either MLA or APA, unless you
\nhave cleared a different style with your instructor first). As with all
\nassignments, a 48-hour late window is provided: submissions up to 24
\nhours late are penalized 10%, and submissions 24 to 48 hours late are
\npenalized 20%. Work is not accepted past 48 hours after the deadline, or
\n in alternate file formats or through non-Blackboard channels, for any
\nreason.<\/p>\n
