The essay is an opportunity for you to apply
\ntheoretical frameworks and concepts introduced in the module to critically evaluate
\nthe enablers and constraints influencing the process of generating, evaluating
\nand championing strategic initiatives.  <\/span>These
\nare the same stages you have worked within the Formative and Summative
\ngroupwork assessments, so you will be familiar with how they work \u2018in
\npractice\u2019.  <\/span>Your task is to demonstrate independent
\nresearch, especially with regards to engaging with peer reviewed academic
\njournal articles listed on the reading list. 
\n<\/span>This is because at level 6 you are expected to engage with management
\nresearch. <\/span><\/p>\n

You are strongly advised to use management
\nresearch introduced in this module only, as it relates to strategic
\nmanagement.  <\/span>References of articles from
\nother modules, or research that is not directly relevant to the core themes in
\nthis essay, are likely to receive a lower score.  <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to using relevant theoretical
\nconcepts, you are advised to use \u2018real world\u2019 examples to illustrate your
\nanswer.  <\/span>For example, you may want to
\nreflect on the enablers and constraints influencing strategic venturing in the
\ncase organisation from your groupwork. 
\n<\/span>Following the formative and summative (video) assessments you should
\nhave deep understanding of the case organisation.  <\/span>You can draw on your knowledge about the case
\norganisation to elaborate your answer, for instance by providing examples to
\ndemonstrate your critical understanding of strategic venturing.  <\/span>Your can also draw on case studies introduced

\nopportunity to extend your argument and demonstrate critical evaluation using

Strategic
\nVenturing  <\/span>\u2013<\/span><\/b> In this section you should define what strategic
\nventuring is and explain how it is used in strategic management.  <\/span>To prepare your answer revisit Lectures 1-7
\nand the core readings, especially Hengst et al., 2020 and Reihlen et al., 2022.
\n  <\/span>This section should \u2018set the scene\u2019 by
\nproviding a critical evaluation of how strategic venture is used in large
\norganisations as part of strategic management. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

Enablers
\n<\/span><\/b>\u2013 Using a mix of theory and real-world
\ncase examples, this section should elaborate on the enablers supporting
\nsuccessful strategic venturing.  <\/span>In the
\nlectures and academic articles there are a number of factors that are shown to
\nsupport the successful integration of new strategic initiatives into corporate
\nstrategy.  <\/span>You should identify what you
\nbelieve these enablers are and use examples of case studies to elaborate how
\nsuccessful project teams manage to attract the resources and support needed to
\ndevelop their strategic initiatives.  <\/span>You
\ncan also draw on Strategy as Practice research covered in lectures 8-10 as this
\nalso provides insights into the \u2018micro-level\u2019 of strategy work.  <\/span>Such research provides valuable suggestions
\nabout, for example, who to include in strategy work; which activities help to
\nformulate and implement strategy, and which tools\/methodologies are useful for undertaking
\nstrategy work. <\/span><\/p>\n

Constraints
\n– <\/span><\/b>In this section you should demonstrate
\nyour understanding of the constraints that may prevent new strategic
\ninitiatives from being integrated into corporate strategy.  <\/span>Lectures 1-7 provide a starting point to begin
\nyour analysis of the factors contributing to the failure of new strategic
\ninitiatives.  <\/span>The academic articles also
\nprovide additional insights about why some strategic initiatives are unable to
\nattract the resources needed to grow and develop.  <\/span>You may also find the strategy as practice
\nresearch covered in lectures 8-10 useful for identifying reasons why some
\nparticipants constrain strategy work, why some strategising activities
\nconstrain strategising and why strategy tools are less effective.   <\/span>Again, you can use examples from case
\nstudies from the module to demonstrate the types of constraints that impact
\nnegatively upon strategic venturing. <\/span><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

\nargument by \u2018taking a view\u2019 regarding what you think are the most important enablers
