A patchwork text-based assessment is a student-led process that consists of a variety of small<\/p>\n
sections, each of which is complete in itself. As a student, part of the assessment process involves<\/p>\n
choosing the pivotal learning moments that are significant to you from the knowledge, skills and<\/p>\n
experiences you have gained from the module. These form the basis of each \u2018patch\u2019, and you will<\/p>\n
need to \u2018stitch\u2019 them together in a way that meets the learning outcomes on which you are being<\/p>\n
assessed.<\/p>\n
Each patchwork text-based assessment will be unique to each individual student. There should be<\/p>\n
four patches, one for each point 1-4 listed below (in this case they would be between 300-500<\/p>\n
words each). Point 5 is a patch in its own right but it is also pulling together the threads from all<\/p>\n
the other patches to act as a summary at the end. This assessment is designed this way to help<\/p>\n
develop you as an autonomous learner. Therefore, you are expected to determine the size of<\/p>\n
each patch for your own piece of work, within the limitations of the word count.<\/p>\n
The Four Pillars of Practice within the RCOT Career Development Framework (2021) act as the<\/p>\n
structure for the patchwork text-based assessment namely: Professional Practice; Facilitation of<\/p>\n
Learning; Leadership; and Evidence, research and development.<\/p>\n
In the assessment, you must:<\/p>\n
1. Map yourself into each Pillar of Practice (RCOT 2021) and identify your current career<\/p>\n
level (from 1-9) for each pillar (NB: advice on getting started with the Career Development<\/p>\n
Framework is provided on page 7 of the Framework document). Provide a short reflection<\/p>\n
(e.g., between 300-500 words), using a model of your choice, to describe why the chosen<\/p>\n
career level reflects your current level of personal learning and development. Focus on<\/p>\n
strengths as well as areas for development. The reflective piece must be new to this<\/p>\n
module. Figures or pictures can be used to support the reflective writing<\/p>\n
2. Professional Practice \u2013 provide a very brief outline of the principles of the problem-<\/p>\n
solving process and the importance of occupation and activity analysis within the<\/p>\n
profession\u2019s theory base. Relate the concepts to observations from your Community<\/p>\n
Engagement, placement, or similar learning\/work experience. Maintain confidentiality in<\/p>\n
your writing and refer to other professional and ethical values<\/p>\n
3. Facilitation of Learning \u2013 identify the specific communication and professional skills you<\/p>\n
have developed so far e.g., from module workshops and Community Engagement and<\/p>\n
describe how they contribute to your professional development as a learner and future<\/p>\n
occupational therapist<\/p>\n
4. Leadership \u2013 using the guiding principles in the Leadership Pillar (pgs 36-47, RCOT 2021)<\/p>\n
and focusing on the leadership of yourself as a developing occupational therapist, identify<\/p>\n
key areas for continued personal and professional development for next year<\/p>\n
5. Evidence, research & development \u2013 discuss the importance and demonstrate use of<\/p>\n
Academic Year 24 -25<\/p>\n
trustworthy sources of evidence to underpin the development of the other patches<\/p>\n
