In this paper, you\u2019ll explore two perspectives on the topic\u2014your own and another one\u2014and use <strong>Bronfenbrenner\u2019s Ecological Systems Theory<\/strong> (or another developmental framework we\u2019ve studied) to show how different contexts and life experiences shape how people come to see things differently.<\/p>\n<p><em>This isn\u2019t an argument paper\u2014it\u2019s about deepening your understanding.<\/em> You\u2019ll practice:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Connecting<\/strong> your ideas to developmental theory<\/li>\n<li><strong>Exploring<\/strong> identity and positionality<\/li>\n<li> Using <strong>credible sources<\/strong><\/li>\n<li> Thinking <strong>critically<\/strong> and <strong>fairly <em>across perspective<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>? Suggested Outline:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Introduction (1\u20132 pages)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> What is your topic? Why does it matter? <\/li>\n<li> Introduce your <strong>positionality<\/strong>: How have your identity, culture, or lived experience shaped your view?<\/li>\n<li> Include a brief explanation of your chosen <strong>developmental framework<\/strong> (Bronfenbrenner is the default) for the reader<\/li>\n<li> Preview the two perspectives you&#8217;ll explore ( they need not be opposite perspectives, just different enough so that you must consider another&#8217;s experience deeply and respectfully)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2. Your Positionality (1\u20132 pages)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> Share your point of view, with support from sources <\/li>\n<li> Use your developmental framework to explain as best as you understand why you see the issue this way <\/li>\n<li> Include how identity, environment, culture, or media comes into your thinking <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>3. Another Perspective (1\u20132 pages)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> Fairly and thoughtfully explore a different point of view <br \/>(e.g., the dominant narrative, a policy position, or a contrasting lived experience)<\/li>\n<li> Use your developmental framework to explain <em>how<\/em> someone<em> might<\/em> come to this view. If you do not understand- get curious vs. judgmental. Do some research. Ask questions and wonder vs. making assumptions. Be sue to use the developmental framework when doing so!<\/li>\n<li> Back it up with sources where possible <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>4.
