What do they already know, and how can you connect with them?<\/li>\n<li>Purpose (Why are you writing?) \u2013 What do you hope your message will accomplish?<\/li>\n<li>Format (How will you share your message?) \u2013 What form will your message take?<\/li>\n<li>Context (When and where are you writing?) \u2013 Are there social, cultural, or professional situations influencing your message?<\/li>\n<li>Culture (What shared values or assumptions might influence your message?) \u2013 What norms, expectations, or beliefs of your own and your audience\u2019s should you consider?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Assessment Deliverable<\/p>\n<p><strong>Part 1: Write Two Versions of Your Message<\/strong> (total of 350\u2013700 words)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Write <\/strong>the same message for 2 different audiences. Use the rhetorical situation elements to guide how you shape each version. Your goal is to make intentional, audience-aware choices.<\/p>\n<p>For each version, <strong>consider<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Writer \u2013 What role are you writing from (student, professional, etc.)?<\/li>\n<li>Message \u2013 What\u2019s the key idea or information you\u2019re trying to communicate?<\/li>\n<li>Audience \u2013 Who will read this, and how can you connect with them?<\/li>\n<li>Purpose \u2013 What do you want your audience to understand, feel, or do?<\/li>\n<li>Format \u2013 What form best fits the situation (email, letter, memo, social post)?<\/li>\n<li>Context \u2013 Are there events or settings that shape how your message will be received?<\/li>\n<li>Culture \u2013 What shared beliefs or expectations do you and your audience bring to this message?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tip: The goal is not to rewrite the same message with minor changes. It\u2019s to adapt the message so it lands effectively with each reader. Keep your tone, word choice, and structure aligned with the expectations of each audience.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Part 2: Write a Reflection<\/strong> (175\u2013350 words)<\/p>\n<p>After writing your 2 versions, <strong>reflect <\/strong>on the choices you made and what you learned from the process.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Compare <\/strong>your 2 versions and <strong>answer <\/strong>the following questions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How did the audience shape your tone, formality, and vocabulary?<\/li>\n<li>What assumptions did you make about each reader, and how did that guide your approach?<\/li>\n<li>How did the format or genre influence your choices?<\/li>\n<li>What role did context or culture play in how you framed your message?<\/li>\n<li>What was most challenging about adapting your message, and what helped you work through it?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tip: This is your opportunity to think like a writer.
