Purpose:<\/p>\n
The purpose of this paper is to provide students the opportunity to practice the following academic<\/p>\n

\u2022 Synthesizing information from different scholarly sources<\/p>\n
\u2022 Writing an academic paper<\/p>\n
\u2022 Using correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation<\/p>\n
\u2022 Correct use of the APA Manual (7thed.)<\/p>\n
Instructions:<\/p>\n
1. Choose one topic from the list below:<\/p>\n
\u25aa Care for older adults with urinary incontinence in long-term care: Recommendations<\/p>\n
for nursing practice.<\/p>\n
\u25aa Care for older adults with impaired swallowing long-term care:<\/p>\n
Recommendations for nursing practice.<\/p>\n
\u25aa Care for older adults with responsive behaviours in long-term care:<\/p>\n
Recommendations for nursing practice.<\/p>\n
\u25aa Care for older adults with pain in long-term care: Recommendations for nursing<\/p>\n
practice.<\/p>\n
2. Perform a scholarly literature search using strategies learned in class (recommend use of<\/p>\n
CINAHL database). Christine Neilson, U of M Librarian, is available to help you.<\/p>\n

to be from peer-reviewed journals. The peer-reviewed journals can be from anywhere in the world.<\/p>\n
3. The articles should NOT be more than ten years old (2015 to present only). Sorry, no<\/p>\n
exceptions.<\/p>\n
4. All articles need to be related to recommendations\/interventions specific to<\/p>\n
Nursing practice which can be implemented in the long-term care (personal care\/nursing home)<\/p>\n
setting. Students are also required to utilize interventional (or experimental) studies or clinical<\/p>\n
trials where \u201cthe researcher actively interferes with nature \u2013 by performing an intervention in<\/p>\n
some or all study participants \u2013 to determine the effect of exposure to the intervention on the<\/p>\n
natural course of events.\u201d (Aggarwal and Raganathan, 2019).<\/p>\n
5. Remember the keywords used for your literature search.<\/p>\n
6. Students are required to upload a screenshot of only the first page of each article to be<\/p>\n
handed in with their scholarly paper.<\/p>\n
7. Have your literature search completed and three articles ready for class #2 on May 12. We<\/p>\n
will be completing part of this assignment in class. It is a very good idea to read your articles<\/p>\n
prior to this class. More information TBA.<\/p>\n
8. Write a paper consisting of the following sections:<\/p>\n
Title Page as per APA guidelines<\/p>\n

Introduction<\/p>\n
\u2022 Briefly introduce the topic<\/p>\n
\u2022 Explain why the topic is important to nursing care of older adults in long-term care settings<\/p>\n
\u2022 Include a thesis statement<\/p>\n
\u2022 Maximum 1\/2page<\/p>\n
Body (each point should have one or two paragraphs)<\/p>\n
1) Background information<\/p>\n
i. Concisely describe the key concepts of your paper topic with sources<\/p>\n
