a) Provide a review and analysis of your technology\/field\/agency\/case trajectory, including key
aspects\/trends concerning the technology\/firm\/agency\u2019s developmental pathway, as well as obstacles to
and prospects for ongoing development. This should integrate the key findings \u2013 concerning the
\u201cinternal\u201d operations of your firm\/technology history, with an analysis of the institutional environment
that supported it. \u2013 e.g., the findings from your first two papers. What should we take away as key
lessons from your technology\/firm developmental trajectory? Note that a thorough account that
synthesizes and extends your first two papers around a core thematic is sufficient for the paper.
However, the areas below may be appropriate ways to extend the discussion, depending on your case.
b) If relevant, you may wish to discuss the social consequences of your technology, or vis a vis the how
your technology\/firm\/industry is governed. In other words, as we will discuss, technologies can have
both positive and negative impacts on social patterns; we shouldn\u2019t assume that the effects of a given
technology are entirely beneficial. More broadly, are there lessons we can learn about the governance of
your issue\/technology\/field? If you believe these kinds of issues are important to your technology, field,
and\/or firm\u2019s history, then you can provide a concise but pointed discussion.
c) Similarly, if relevant (not required), you may wish to provide a policy analysis: given your
firm\u2019s\/agency\u2019s operations (and\/or the developmental trajectory of the technology), what kinds of
policies would appear to be useful in (1) fostering greater innovation in your technology area? (or to
suppress it, if that appears to be the optimal solution in your view!); (2) to generate positive \u2018social\u2019
and\/or economic outcomes if technological innovations continue to develop in your field (or ceases to
do so). If you have studied a historical case, then your analysis should capture what you think we can
learn from it. If you discuss a recent case, you can compare your case to others from class, and\/or
discuss key issues that should be addressed as the technological or firm trajectory moves forward.
Your paper should be approximately 10-12 pages, plus bibliography. Use the same format as on prior papers.
You can draw upon \u2013 and use text \u2013 from past papers. But your final paper should stand by itself.
