Term Paper Guidance for ITN 100 The term paper is an essay on an aspect of Networking and Information Tehcnology that has an interest to you based on the concepts you have learned this semester. For example, maybe you have an interest in: – The future of IP Version 6, – Networking that has a personal interest to you such as you are already using networking for a medical reason or professional reason and want to explain how it works and how you see it being used in the future. – A legal aspect of networking such as Intellectual property, crime solving or industrial spying and network security – Networking involved in crypto currency These are just examples. Please feel free to discuss your topic with me. Your essay should follow the format below and is due our class near the end of the semester. If time permits, we will do presentations. The successful term paper will have a description of the technology that you have chosen and your evaluation of the technology. Your evaluation will include your observations etc., based on your research. You will be given guidance throughout the semester on construction of this paper and due dates. My advice is to build on it as you go and not wait until the last moment then run out of time. Running out of time for whatever reason is no excuse. You can always ask questions throughout the semester. No Late papers accepted. The Essay is to be in the Format as follows (1 inch margins, double spaced, 12 point size, Times New Roman font): Title Page (1 page): This must have the Subject\/Title of your paper, administrative information such as your name, date, course and section that you are in. Introduction\/Abstract (1 page): Begin a new page. Your introduction should be a summary of your paper to include a high-level view or the main points and conclusions. You should start the introduction with: I chose to w rite about this technology because….. Followed by: Paragraph 1: This paper will discuss \u201cThis Technology\u201d. Briefly discuss this in a few sentences highlighting your key points. Paragraph 2: Finish the Introduction with a brief statement of your evaluation of the technology and your conclusions. The Body of the Essay (minimum 2 to no more than 4 pages) has 4 parts that expand on your introduction: Part 1: The name of the Technology you are writing about. Discuss in detail the key points of your research on your topic. You should Start the page with something Like: This paper will discuss \u201cThis Technology\u201d; Make your most important points first. If you quote an article or expert, make sure that you give them credit using the tools in Word. Part 2: This is where you offer your opinion on the Technology you write about. Discuss the pros and cons and future of the technology. Where you think it could be better and what you think it all means. What future research should focus on or how future research could move the technology forward. Discuss how knowledge in the area could be expanded. It should start something like :\u201dMy opinion of this technology is….\u201d Part 3: The Conclusion-Your recommendation-the future direction: This would be the future direction as you see it. It should start something like: \u201cMy evaluation of this technology is….\u201d Part 4. References: This consists of the journals and articles you read used and any other you research.
