Your thesis should be your answer to this question and will act as the controlling purpose of your argument essay. As you write this essay, you should address a specific audience that is skeptical about or disagrees with your point of view about this issue. The essay should be written to change this audience\u2019s mind or perception. You should build reasons to support your thesis and provide evidence to support your reasons. As well as your own pro arguments, you should also include counterarguments to help your reader become more sympathetic to your point of view. Your evidence should also make clear but appropriate appeals to your audience\u2019s ethos, logos and\/or pathos as you try to convince them of your point of view.
In terms of format, you should design your essay appropriately for your intended audience. Your essays should take the following shape:
\u2022 You will begin with an introduction that draws in the audience and presents the issue you will discuss. The last sentence of the Introduction will clearly state your position on the issue and will not be a question.
\u2022 The second paragraph or two will be a background paragraph in which you will describe any background information you wish to give the reader about the topic. (N.B. Think of paragraphs as being half a page to three-quarters of a page in length, not whole pages or more. Make sure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence, is developed, unified and coherent.) <\/p>\n
\u2022 After the Background Paragraph, you will then provide a series of paragraphs arguing your position on the thesis. You will provide reasons and evidence.
\u2022 You will need to use a minimum of 3 secondary sources. You should use these as evidence for your argument or as counterarguments you will refute.
\u2022 Counter arguments will need to be considered and refuted.
\u2022 The essay will end with a conclusion. Here, you will briefly restate your thesis and\/or your main points and leave the reader with something interesting to consider in relation to your topic.
\u2022 N.B. Take care to avoid plagiarism and A.I. to produce text for the essay.
You should also create a Works Cited page, where you will reference no less than 3
sources. For the secondary sources, make sure that you include:

\u2022 The Works Cited page at the end.<\/p>\n
You may not write about the same topic that you chose for the Surprise-Reversal Informative essay unless you have checked with me first.
You may not write about a topic on the \u201cNo Fly\u201d list unless you have direct involvement
with it. You should discuss this with me in advance.
