This assignment is similar to the poetry explication, mid-term, and the short story analysis in
\nthat you must center the paper on a theme. I still want you in the same city with your theme, not
\nnecessarily in the same ballpark, so to speak. By now you should have read at least one of the
\nplays. When you develop your theme (meaning) remember to connect it to one of three things:
\n\uf0d8 Human Nature
\n\uf0d8 Society
\n\uf0d8 Culture
\nDo not give me a \u201cone word\u201d theme such as, \u201cThe theme of Othello is jealousy.\u201d Immediately, I
\nwill ask, \u201cso what about jealousy?\u201d What about jealousy relates to human nature or society or
\nculture? Do not develop a \u201csummary theme\u201d such as: \u201cA Doll House is about a woman who
\ndecides to leave her husband and children.\u201d
\nOnce you have developed a theme, decide what three elements of drama the playwright uses to
\nadvance that theme. These elements of drama (refer to the reading I assigned in the course
\ncalendar):

\n\uf0d8 Character
\n\uf0d8 Setting
\n\uf0d8 Point of View
\n\uf0d8 Language \/ Dialog
\n\uf0d8 Irony
\n\uf0d8 Symbolism
\n\uf0d8 Imagery
\n\uf0d8 Stage Direction
\nYour paper will be written using the MLA documentation style and in the research paper format
\n(refer to the \u201cResearch Paper Template\u201d file the I have posted). Every specific support (which
\nwill now become individual paragraphs) must include your point, a direct quote from the play, a
\ndirect quote from a critic, and you explanation (analysis). Basically, this expands the PIE
\nspecific support to P-I-I-E!
\nThe first paragraph should include all of the following:
\n\uf0d8 A motivator sentence.
\n\uf0d8 The title of the play.
\n\uf0d8 The full name of the playwright.
\n\uf0d8 A clearly defined theme.
