You will write a research brief that
\naddresses some type of communication issue<\/b>. This brief will include
\nan introduction that makes a case for why the topic is important and a review
\nof the relevant literature on the topic. You will conclude the brief by
\nsummarizing what is known about the topic based on your review.<\/span><\/p>\n

The introduction<\/i> should
\ntake the form of a clear argument that identifies who<\/b> will be
\nable to use the findings from your research brief and how<\/b>. This
\nsection should include citations to evidence to support your argument. The
\nintroduction should also include a clear statement of purpose that identifies
\nthe specific area of research literature that will be reviewed in your brief.
\nEvidence cited in the introduction can come from a variety of sources; you do
\nnot need to restrict yourself to just primary research studies.<\/span><\/p>\n

The literature review<\/i> should
\ncontain the most relevant literature based on the stated purpose of the brief.
\nYou must review at least 12 primary research studies<\/u><\/b>. Eight of
\nthe studies must come from peer-reviewed journals; the remaining studies may
\ncome from other sources as long as they are primary research studies (report
\noriginal data and include information about research method and procedures)<\/u>.
\nThe studies selected for the review should be clearly related to the stated
\npurpose of the brief. You should create conceptual subtopics within your review
\nby clustering together studies that report findings that address similar
\nconcepts. Please use headings to organize your paper into subtopics.<\/span><\/p>\n

When writing about a study, make sure to
\nfocus on the actual findings that are most relevant to your purpose. Include
\njust basic information about the study\u2019s method to help the reader understand
\nthe nature of the evidence being reported. Avoid summarizing other portions of
\nthe article, such as the authors\u2019 introduction, literature review, or
\ndiscussion section. Your task is to extract relevant data from the study\u2019s
\nfindings, organize it, and make meaning of it in your own, unique way based on
\nthe specific purpose you have for reviewing the literature.<\/span><\/p>\n

The
\nbrief should end with a conclusion<\/i> that summarizes the major
\nfindings of the brief. An effective summary will concisely recap for the reader
\nwhat is known about the topic.
