Summarize and respond to an academic article in expository essay format (MLO1)<\/p>\n

  1. Choose, summarize, and respond to an essay from the “Readings” section of the <\/span>They Say I Say <\/em>textbook.<\/li>\n
  2. This essay should begin with an introduction paragraph that summarizes an essay from <\/span>They Say I Say. <\/em>The introduction should end with a thesis in “I agree,” “I disagree” or “I both agree and disagree” format. Students are allowed to use the templates from They Say I Say<\/em>. <\/span>It is important to note that this is the only sentence that should have first person.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Body paragraphs should develop the reasons outlined in the thesis. Reasons should be in response to the chosen essay. Students should quote and refer back to the essay throughout the body paragraphs. Points should be supported with evidence from the reading, personal experience, or hypothetical examples. <\/span>Do not do outside research for this assignment<\/span>. <\/li>\n
  4. Quotes and paraphrases are used appropriately. Quotes do not stand alone but are introduced with signal phrases\/voice markers and are explained.<\/li>\n
  5. The essay should end with a conclusion that restates the thesis and main points, and brings a sense of completeness to the essay. <\/li>\n
  6. The essay should be free from grammatical errors and typos. <\/li>\n
  7. Other than the thesis statement, it is only third person. Also, there are no contractions, questions, or exclamations.<\/li>\n
  8. It is at least 1200 words. This does not include the MLA formatting: Header, Title, Right-Hand Pagination, or Works Cited Page.<\/li>\n
  9. The essay should be in MLA format. It should include parenthetical citations after quotes and paraphrases, and a Works Cited page.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
