Some guidelines for the Discussion section<\/span><\/u>
\n(11 pts)<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

The Discussion section should be between 2 and 3 pages long, maybe
\nlonger depending on a number of factors (see below). The paper should be
\ntypewritten in APA format. Your Discussion section should (at a minimum) include
\nthe following:<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

(1)  
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>The first few
\nparagraphs should provide<\/span><\/p>\n

a.    
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>A summary of
\nthe hypotheses, the results corresponding to those hypotheses, and especially
\nwhether the results supported the hypotheses or not.<\/span><\/p>\n

b.    
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>An argument
\nthat ties the hypotheses and results into the theory that motivated the
\nexperiment, especially emphasizing the primary theoretical concepts that were
\ntested and supported by the experiment.<\/span><\/p>\n

c.     
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Placement of
\nthe results of the present experiment in the context of past research,
\nespecially in the context of research that you reviewed in your introduction.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>The next few paragraphs
\nshould provide an examination of some (or all) of the four big validities,
\nemphasizing those that are most important (i.e., construct and internal) in the
\ncontext of the present experiment.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>The next few
\nparagraphs should include directions for future research. There are many ways
\nin which ideas for future research are generated, but a couple of common ones
\nare (a) addressing a weakness in the present experiment in future experiments
\nand (b) being inspired by something you read in your literature review that
\nmaybe didn\u2019t specifically relate to the present experiment but might be
\nexplored in future experiments. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nparagraph should consist of a concluding (re)statement or two that captures the
\nmost important contribution(s) made by the present research. <\/span><\/p>\n

As always, it will be up to you to find a way to communicate in your
\nown words<\/i><\/b> (1) how the results of the experiment did or did not support
\nthe hypotheses and, ultimately, the theory that you described in your
\nintroduction, (2) strengths and weaknesses of the present experiment in terms
\nof the four big validities, and (3) some relatively specific ideas about other
\nways in which the theory that you presented in the introduction and\/or the
\nStroop response set manipulation might be further explored or applied in future
\nexperiments. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Abstract should be no longer than 150 words. Each of the major
\nsections of the paper (i.e., Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion)
\nshould each be captured by a sentence or two in your abstract. By reading the
\nabstract, a reader should be able to get a good sense of the research question,
\nhow the research question was addressed, the results of the research, and the
