You will be investigating the connection between \u2018mythology\u2019 and
\narchaeology. <\/span><\/p>\n

(1)  <\/span><\/span><\/span>Select a \u2018site\u2019
\nfrom the list provided and conduct research into the \u2018site.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n

(2)  <\/span><\/span><\/span>What is the
\n\u2018mythos\u2019 surrounding the site? Dependent on the site, mythology can include the
\nhistory of discovery\u2014what led to the original (or ongoing) quest\/exploration to
\nfind the site (myths\/oral tradition, historical reference, literary reference,
\netc.)? Who is credited with building the site (individual or culture)? Some of
\nthe claims about the site may fall into the realm of pseudoarchaeology. Sometimes
\nthere is a germ of truth in the mythology.<\/span><\/p>\n

(3)  <\/span><\/span><\/span>What do we know
\nabout the \u2018site\u2019 from archaeological research (the factual evidence pertaining
\nto your chosen site). Profile the W5 of the site (who, what, when, where, and
\nwhy) and provide a history of excavation for your site (should it exist).<\/span><\/p>\n

(4)  <\/span><\/span><\/span>Discuss the
\nconnection between mythology and archaeology in general, and with reference to
\nyour specific site research.<\/span><\/p>\n

A minimum of 6 sources is required, 4 of which must be
\nacademic\/scholarly in nature. The research paper should be @ 8 double-spaced single
\nsided typed pages in length (12-font), and it must be properly<\/i> formatted<\/i><\/b> and referenced throughout the
\ntext <\/b>(direct quotations as well as paraphrases, including page numbers for
\nboth where relevant), <\/b>and include a
\nreferences cited section.<\/b><\/i> <\/b>We will be using the Society for
\nAmerican Archaeology (SAA) Style Guide. Please number your pages and include a
\ntitle page containing all of the appropriate information (paper title, student
\nname, course number and section, instructor name, and date of submission).
\nNote: the title page does not count towards overall paper length. Be sure to
\nwrite in proper essay format (introduction, body and conclusion); sub-headings
\nare encouraged.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
