Executive Summary<\/b><\/p>\n
The executive summary should include all key findings (a few
\nof you wrote the Executive Summary section in Week 4 as an introduction, but
\nthat is NOT the purpose of the executive summary). I recommend writing a
\nshorter intro\/background part and certainly including sufficient information on
\nthe results, implications, and recommendations (they are more important).<\/p>\n
For the executive summary, and even more for the paper as a
\nwhole, write as if you are writing for someone who has no idea what
\nthis study is about <\/b>\u2013 explain the null hypothesis, the cohorts, the
\ntests you conducted, etc. <\/p>\n
Findings<\/b><\/p>\n
Ideally, this section will have three main sub-sections:
\n
\nStudent Demographic Profile, Student Experiences and Perceptions, and Plans
\nto Return<\/b>
\n
\n1. First, you should summarize the overall respondent demographics.<\/b>
\n
\nThen, demographics broken down by the three class sections – summarize the
\npercentages and then add findings from the crosstabulation (p-values from Week
\n5 papers). That takes care of RQ1<\/b>.
\n
\n2. Then, move on to the Experience and Perceptions<\/b> section –
\nsummarize all the means first, followed by explanations of the crosstabulations
\nwith p-values. Starting with text, then table, then text, then table (graphs in
\nbetween where applicable). This section will answer RQ 2 and RQ 3<\/b>.
\nSee the Xu et al. article as an example of how to summarize the means for the
\nresponses.
\n
\n*Please note that the Xu et al. (2016) example has some tables bunched
\ntogether, which is not recommended, but that is probably due to journal
\nformatting.
\n
\n3. Then, Plans to Return to SOU<\/b> – summarize the percentages
\nand the p-values, as well as the chi-square as it is provided, followed by the
\ntables. That section answers RQ 4 and RQ 5<\/b>.
\n
\nLastly, although only three reasons were mentioned, a sentence or two
\nsummarizing reasons for not returning<\/b> should be added, as that
\nanswers RQ6.<\/b><\/p>\n
Do NOT include any pasted tables from Qualtrics \u2013 use
\nONLY the provided tables.<\/b><\/p>\n
Every table and figure MUST be referenced in the text.<\/b> If
\nyou don\u2019t have any text that is related to the table, then you probably should
\nadd something (since all tables are required).<\/p>\n
Please also make sure that you explain what
\nstatistical tests were run, providing the p<\/i>-value.<\/b> In
\nprevious years, I have seen papers that say: \u201cdata was significant.\u201d That is
\nnot clear – explain which variable, what test, etc. The correct way to
\nreference a p<\/i>-value is in parenthesis and in italics (p<\/i>=
\n0.001).<\/i><\/b> Only include three decimal points for the p-value.
\nProvide the chi-square results when available (see provided tables).<\/p>\n
See the Xu et al. journal article<\/b> that
\nincludes summaries of demographic characteristics and other data. Please skim
\nthrough the Results and Discussion, and Implications sections. You will be able
\nto see the language that has been used, get ideas on how to present the
\nsummaries, what section headings to add, formatting, etc. <\/b>Please note
\nthat some of the tables in this article are grouped together\u2026 try to spread
\nyour tables out as you are writing a report, not a journal article.<\/p>\n
Conclusions and Recommendations<\/b><\/p>\n
There is no need to repeat any of the numbers from the
\nfindings section; the p<\/i>-values were listed in the previous section.
\nIn this section, you only need to answer the research questions, say
\nwhether the hypothesis was rejected or failed to reject<\/b>\u2026 and what that
\nmeans \u2013 answer the \u201cso what\u201d question.<\/p>\n
Provide recommendations based on the data and
\nsuggest ideas for future studies<\/b> (what could\/should have been done to
\nobtain better data or information, how can the study be expanded,
\netc.). Once again, you can take a look at the Xu et al. (2016) article for
\nsome ideas on the language to use.<\/p>\n
Formatting<\/b><\/p>\n
Make sure that the paper flows well \u2013 do not copy
\nten tables and graphs together<\/b> – spread them out in between text.<\/p>\n
