1. <\/span><\/span>View the film.  I recommend first watching it for fun to give yourself a basic idea of the content.  After you view the film once, choose a <\/span><\/span><\/span>topic\/segment<\/span><\/span> <\/span>you would <\/span><\/span><\/span>like <\/span><\/span><\/span>to explore and rewatch <\/span><\/span><\/span>it<\/span><\/span> <\/span>(you can also find these segments on YouTube for easy accessibility).<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Research<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

2. <\/span><\/span>Start Researching: <\/span><\/span><\/span>Now that you know what country<\/span><\/span>\/system you will be exploring<\/span><\/span>, t<\/span><\/span>ake about an hour or so, to do some preliminary background research, or in other words a basic google search.  Get a sense of how this systems functions.  Keep your eye out for the historical, economic, and political forces that have influence over these systems. Jot <\/span><\/span><\/span>down some key words or ideas<\/span><\/span> <\/span>that are recurring. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Once you are done doing this<\/span><\/span>, you will<\/span><\/span> <\/span>then<\/span><\/span>follow the same process to explore the way America handles the same system.  For instance, if you research<\/span><\/span>ed<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>p<\/span><\/span>rison\u2019s in Norway, you will <\/span><\/span><\/span>also explore the American<\/span><\/span>prison<\/span><\/span> <\/span>system <\/span><\/span><\/span>along the same three dimensions.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>This process will help you develop good \u201ckey word\u201d searches in the Holman library database.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

    <\/span><\/span><\/span>5. <\/span><\/span><\/span>\u200b<\/span>Start writing your Paper:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Introduction:<\/span><\/span> <\/span>Your introduction should concisely introduce your reader to the main ideas that your paper will explore<\/span><\/span>. The last sentence, will also include a thesis statement or the main idea you are trying to convey to your reader.  (one paragraph)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Body:<\/span><\/span> <\/span>Using your research from the Holman Library database, d<\/span><\/span>iscuss the basic set-up of the <\/span><\/span><\/span>system<\/span><\/span>, as well as aspects of the society that contribute to that set-up<\/span><\/span>; <\/span><\/span><\/span>explain how the <\/span><\/span><\/span>1.)<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>cultural\/historical<\/span><\/span> <\/span>2.)<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>political and  3.)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>economic <\/span><\/span><\/span>forces have created, influenced, and sustained this system<\/span><\/span>(be sure to address one example of each<\/span><\/span> <\/span>and separate these ideas into paragraphs; each paragraph should have 3-5 sentences and also include a topic sentence)<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Follow the same process <\/span><\/span><\/span>for the American side<\/span><\/span>.  You must cite all of your sources in text. <\/span><\/span><\/span>(3-4 pages)<\/span><\/span> <\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Are there different sides or angles to this reform?  <\/span><\/span>(1\/2-1 page<\/span><\/span>) <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Conclusion<\/span>: Your conclusion should restate the main ideas of your paper and wrap up your essa<\/span>y, by reminding the readers of the basic ideas that you presented. <\/span><\/span><\/span>Your topic sentence should reiterate your thesis statement. <\/span><\/span>(one paragraph) <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

6. <\/span><\/span>Citing <\/span><\/span>Sources<\/span>:<\/span> <\/span>Y<\/span>our paper you must include four (4) sources that support your analysis.<\/span><\/p>\n
