In this review paper, researchers hav<\/span>e<\/span> <\/span>examined<\/span> significant variations <\/span>of intersecting<\/span> identities <\/span>affecting <\/span>African American women<\/span> across racial<\/span> and gender-based challenges<\/span>, interpersonal<\/span> trauma<\/span>, c<\/span>ultural<\/span> context<\/span>, and<\/span> socioeconomic<\/span> <\/span>structures<\/span>. <\/span>Specifically<\/span>,<\/span> the <\/span>literature findings <\/span>highlight<\/span> the <\/span>increasingly<\/span>, <\/span>disproportionate<\/span> <\/span>prevalence of treatment<\/span> <\/span>outcomes <\/span>and recovery <\/span>processes<\/span> <\/span>harnessing<\/span> African American women<\/span> with substance abuse<\/span> and co-occurring <\/span>traumatic<\/span> stress <\/span>disorders.<\/span> <\/span>The existing literature <\/span>on th<\/span>e <\/span>unique <\/span>intersection of<\/span> <\/span>marginalized <\/span>identities, trauma and addiction experiences of African American women,<\/span> <\/span>and <\/span>substance abuse and mental health t<\/span>reatment<\/span> and recovery<\/span> effectiveness <\/span>are reviewed in this discussion.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n
