The Research Design<\/b> is a short section, perhaps
\nabout a page long. Yet, it requires serious thinking about the research
\nquestion once again, the target population, the survey, and everything else
\nrelated to the research design.<\/p>\n
Key topics to be included:<\/p>\n
1. What type of
\nstudy<\/b> are you conducting \u2013 descriptive, explanatory, etc? A single
\nmethod or a mixed method?<\/p>\n
2. Identifying the
\ntarget population being investigated<\/b> \u2013 e.g., all employees in a
\ncompany or all residents of an area, etc.<\/p>\n
3. Description of
\nthe survey instrument<\/b>. The idea is that everyone will be using a
\nsurvey as their data collection instrument. The questions in the survey might
\nbe developed following a certain theory, can be based on themes from an
\ninterview, based on a previous study, etc. Explain what type of questions the
\nsurvey would include \u2013 e.g., focusing on key constructs\/concepts, demographic
\nquestions, etc. Explain in detail. You will utilize Qualtrics for data
\ncollection. Would the question be multiple-choice, Likert Scale, open-ended,
\netc. It has to be a quantitative survey (possibly with a few open-ended
\nquestions at the end).<\/p>\n
4. How would the
\nsurvey be administered<\/b> \u2013 online, in-person, etc. Explain. You
\nare welcome to turn in your surveys this week if you would like. However, the
\nsurvey is NOT required this week (I hope everyone will be drafting the
\nquestions, though).<\/p>\n
5. Sampling
\nmethod<\/b> \u2013 probability, non-probability, systemic, random, convenience,
\nsnowball, etc.<\/p>\n
6. Sample size<\/b> \u2013
\ninclude a sentence or two summarizing the text but add an Appendix including
\nyour calculations.<\/p>\n
7. Explain that data
\nwill be analyzed via Qualtrics<\/b> (or any other program).<\/p>\n
8. Fill out the IRB
\napplication<\/b> (in most cases, an exempt one) and add it as an attachment
\nto Assignment 3. An IRB from a project I worked on a few years back is provided
\nas an example in Week 3. Please note that digital signatures are currently
\naccepted for the IRB application. You can attach it as a separate document (s)
\n(pdf is OK) or take screenshots of the pdf pages and place the IRB application
\nas an appendix in the Word file – your choice. If attaching separately, it will
\nbe very helpful to combine the files, so you submit only two files \u2013 the Word
\ndocument (template) and a pdf of your IRB containing the three documents. You
\nwill receive feedback on the IRB, but we will NOT technically send the
\napplications to IRB for review since we will not collect data in this class.<\/p>\n

\ncomplete proposals<\/b> (see Week 1 and Week 4 on Moodle).<\/p>\n
