Below is a checklist for referencing and evaluation of sources. Those of you who are near the word count
\nlimit should focus on this, but all should pay attention:
\n\uf0b7 Have you acknowledged all your sources? Every idea and opinion, not just every fact, should be
\nreferenced.
\n\uf0b7 Have you kept your bibliography up to date? Every source mentioned in the text must have a full
\nreference in the bibliography.
\n\uf0b7 Are your in-text references and bibliography entry *consistent*? The name used in the reference
\nin the body must be exactly the same as the name used at the front of the reference in the
\nbibliography.
\n\uf0b7 Are all your references in Chicago format? Do not rely entirely on mybib to create the Chicago
\nreference for you: it is only a computer program and does make mistakes, so check the source
\nitself to make sure the author name and date are or are not provided.
\n\uf0b7 Are your in-text references inside a sentence, so that the full stop appears after the reference and
\nnot before?
\n\uf0b7 Is your bibliography in alphabetical order? Make it easy for the reader to look up your sources.
\nBelow are three further tips on using and evaluating sources:
\n\uf0b7 Have you supported your main sources with minor sources? One good place to look for support is
\nin the list of references given at the end of your main source (if your source does not have a list of
\nreferences, that is a weakness – you can use articles that have no references but acknowledge that
\nthey are not as reliable or credible and do not make them your main source).
\n\uf0b7 Have you challenged your sources with other sources? As you present competing perspectives, the
\nsources for one will challenge the sources in the other, and you should highlight this.
\n\uf0b7 Have you compared and evaluated your competing perspectives? This includes comparing the
\nstrengths and weaknesses of the arguments, the evidence, and the sources themselves (e.g. bias,
\none-sidedness, consideration of counter-arguments or evidence, relevance, ability to see, not
\nbeing outdated, sample size, and so on). Make sure to follow this rules, subheadings should not be present, there should be paragraphs for introduction which needs to be very strong, key points, global and local perspective (Romania), a very strong conculsion, use in text references (name, date).
