CASE STUDY<\/span><\/u><\/b><\/p>\n

Luca is an
\neleven- year old boy living in an impoverished area. He lives with his mom and
\nyounger sister of 6. His father was killed in the same shooting incident that
\nleft him in a wheelchair. This incident happened when Luca was nine years old.
\nHis mother has since looked after the two children on her own. Luca \u2018s family
\nunfortunately live on the third floor of the block of flats. When he was shot
\nhis mother was able to carry him up and down the two flights of stairs although
\nwith much effort. However, as he grew older and became heavier, his mother is
\nno longer able to do so. Every morning a neighbour comes to carry him down to
\nthe waiting taxi while his mother brings his wheelchair. In the afternoon when
\nhe returns from school he waits for his mother at a neighbour\u2019s house. The
\nneighbour who lives on the ground floor also provides the children with a meal
\nand allows them to attend to their schoolwork if need be. They also enjoy the
\ncompany of other children living in the flats who come out to play. <\/span>When
\nhis mother returns from work one of the neighbours will carry him up to the
\nflat. At school Luca has managed to be accommodated by all the teachers. He is
\ndoing well academically and everyone knows him to be cheerful and upbeat
\ndespite his inability to walk. However, there are times when he feels that he
\nwished he was not a burden on other people. His classmates willingly assist him
\nwith any challenges that he may have at school. His teachers are all in contact
\nwith his mom especially since the shooting incident. They gave him time to
\ncatch up with work missed while he was in hospital and now continue to be in
\ncontact with her to ensure that he does not miss out on work when he is unable
\nto attend school. <\/p>\n
