The review should focus on the nature of, and the strengths and weaknesses of the selected theories and models. Start to consider teams and followers, how do the theories relate to them? Contextualize the discussion to consider the Educational arena, in your own experience. 500 words. <\/span>Use the literature to support your discussion.<\/span><\/p>\n

The idea and concepts of leadership have long been a topic of fierce debate, and academic discussion, from Sun Tzu and Machiavelli, through Carlyle to ideas of global leadership in the 21st century. Here, we will be considering the concept of leadership, in respect of the Educational sector, in depth, but that entails firstly understanding the varied models and leadership issues in depth, to be able to understand the ideas in situ in education.<\/p>\n

 We will open with a brief discussion on the main leadership theories and models, and the materials on the class site will help to lead you through the ideas and development of the theories. There are two set text books, both available through Amazon.<\/p>\n

Western, S. (2013). Leadership: A Critical Text. 3rd edition. London: Sage.<\/p>\n

For the first module, please read Chapters 1. 2, 3 and 4.<\/p>\n

Grint, K. (2010) Leadership: A Very Short Introduction. 2nd edition. Oxford: Oxford University Press. <\/p>\n

The readings above will cover units 1 and 2 of the course.<\/p>\n

 You should also get hold of a copy of the main text book for the second half of the module: Principles of Educational Leadership and Management, 3rd Edition (2019), Edited by Tony Bush, Les Bell and David Middlewood, Sage Publications. It can take a week or two to be delivered. Amazon carry it, and I believe there is an e-book for this.<\/p>\n
