Gangs with all its delinquent activities vie for the good life. Taking Plato and Aristotle’s philosophical principles on the “good Life” from a deductive, inductive approach,and the Doctrine of the Mean, understanding the gang phenomenon on the El Paso-Juarez border requires keen insight, observation and sensitivity towards the people and communities where they live. Father Harold Rahm, Catholic priest during the 1950’s, reached out to the Segundo Barrio community as they did of him; particularly the youth who entrusted his genuine interest in studying gangs from their perspective. Mike Tapia, on the other hand, in his book: <\/span>Gangs<\/em> <\/span>of the El Paso-Juarez Borderland<\/em>, traces the history of gangs to the pachuco zoot suiter and its Juarez origins. <\/div>\n
Give the title of Rahm’s study and describe the gang information he gathered in Segundo Barrio of each group’s name, territory, structure, and activity? Did this constitute an unbiased ethnographic study based on a deductive or inductive approach in line with Plato and Aristotle’s principles of the good life and the Doctrine of the Mean or did Rahm as a person of non-Mexican origin lean more towards an ethnocentric interpretation ? Was his research quantitative, or qualitative ? Moreover, consider Tapia’s historical account of the zoot suit style from its Juarez roots and the El Paso-LA connection of pachuquismo that spread the culture, language, and dress to California. Is Tapia’s study based on a deductive, inductive approach coinciding with the Doctrine of the Mean and does his ethnographic research  accurately explain Mexican American gangs from a cultural relativist perspective? Furthermore, is his research quantitative or qualitative?  When addressing this define the terms deductive, inductive , Doctrine of the Mean along with ethnography, ethnocentrism, quantitative and qualitative as well as cultural relativism.
