This assignment requires you to read a
\nparticular article that will be posted on Moodle approximately two weeks in
\nadvance of the due date. You will need to \u201crespond\u201d to the article by answering
\nthe following questions:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

  1. What is this article about? Briefly summarize its
    \n contents and conclusions<\/span><\/b>. (Be careful not to rely on the abstract (if there is one) or just
    \n the introduction when you do this.) <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Write approximately
    \n200 words for your summary<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Note and explain two<\/u> things that were new
      \n to you<\/span><\/b> (new information or new ideas,
      \n perhaps a particular term that the author did not explain, or the name of
      \n a key figure). (Was the topic itself new to you?) Why do you think these
      \n things are important to know about? <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Look up these new
      \nterms\/ideas, define them, and note where you found the information in your
      \nbibliography.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

      1. Bibliography: <\/span><\/b>Include the complete bibliographic reference to the article
        \n itself<\/u>, as well as bibliographic references for the two sources
        \n that you used in the \u201cnew things\u201d section<\/u> (above). <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        These must be
        \nformatted correctly. I recommend <\/span>Chicago style<\/span><\/a>, but if you are
        \ncomfortable with MLA or APA and can do them correctly, those are also
        \nacceptable. (You do not need to include footnotes in this short assignment,
        \nunless you are comfortable with a footnote citation style and can do it
        \ncorrectly.) <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

        Total assignment should be in the
        \nrange of 500 <\/span><\/b>words, not including bibliography.
        \nThis is intended to be a short assignment.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

        We will be discussing the article in
        \nclass on the day that it is due, therefore assignments must be handed in prior
        \nto class<\/span><\/b> (via Moodle as PDF). <\/b>But bring
        \na copy with you to class, so we can have a robust discussion.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

        This assignment is PASS\/FAIL. It is
        \nworth 10% of your course grade. <\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

        Late assignments will be penalized<\/span><\/b>
        \nfor half their value (i.e. if you hand it in late, you will only receive 5% of
        \nthe course grade for it).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
