\nsuch content due to its multimodal nature. ELAN, developed by the Max Planck
\nInstitute for Psycholinguistics, offers a robust framework for multimodal
\nresearch but requires critical evaluation and potential enhancement to be
\neffectively applied in this context. By improving our understanding of ELAN\u2019s
\ncapabilities and addressing its limitations, this study aims to advance the
\nfield of multimodal political communication analysis and provide insights into
\nthe sophisticated strategies used in digital propaganda.<\/span><\/p>\n

The
\nrationale for focusing on Zelensky’s TikTok appearances is twofold. First,
\nZelensky’s background as a former comedian and actor gives him a unique
\napproach to political communication that is particularly suited to the TikTok
\nformat. His videos often blend humor, directness, and emotional appeal, making
\nthem an interesting case study for multimodal analysis. Second, the
\ngeopolitical context of Ukraine, especially in light of the ongoing conflict
\nwith Russia, adds a layer of urgency and relevance to understanding how
\npolitical messaging is crafted and perceived. Analyzing Zelensky’s TikTok
\ncontent through the lens of ELAN can reveal not only the techniques used but
\nalso the broader implications for political communication in digital spaces.<\/span><\/p>\n

There is a
\ndata set of 10 short Tik Tok videos featuring President Zelensky’s appearances.
\nTHe task is to manually annotate them using ELAN software, and then provide
\nmultimodal discourse analysis. You should create annotation framework including
\nsrveral layers – transcribed speech analysis, gestures – head gestures and
\nfacial expressions analysis, audio analysis – music, sound effects, Rhetorical
\ndevices, Speech Acts, Intonation patterns, 
\n<\/span>Message Intent, Tempo, Pitch. Visual cues – Symbolic objects, Setting
\nand background, Use of colors, Captions. You also should support the choice of
\nlabels in controlled vocabularies of annotation framework with corresponding
\nreferences from theoretical literature. The annotation framework should have
\nstrong dependencies and hierarchy relevant for this research. The thesis has no
\nhypothesis – it should answer two questions : What are the current capabilities
\nand limitations of ELAN and automated tools for the semi-automatic annotation
\nof multimodal audiovisual data?<\/span><\/p>\n

2. What
\npatterns and trends are evident in the representation of ideological messaging
\nin TikTok videos featuring Zelensky? Therefore you should describe in detail
\nannotation framework you created using scientific references from multimodal
\ndiscourse analysis, describe the annotation process and the chellenges you
\nencountered. In Results\/ Discussion part you should come with comparative
\nanalysis of patterns and trends in Zelensky’s representation – compare
\ndifferent features e.g. gestures with transcribed speech, visual cues with
\nauditory features, rhetorical devices with gestures, tempo, pitch, intonation
\npatterns etc. The ELAN software you can easily find online download and use on
