Explain your rationale.

Della’s Post:Based on the video “Tesla SWOT Analysis” by 365 Financial Analyst (2023), three strategic opportunities that Tesla might consider pursuing are improving factory automation and lowering the cost of production, sharing research and design costs with the companies already involved, and continuing to expand the growth of industrial battery production. For Tesla to take advantage of this opportunity involves offensive and defensive strategies. Tesla, a leader in the technology and automation of electric cars, currently holds the top position and can maintain it depending on the shift from fuel to electric vehicles. However, Tesla has also been on the defensive, having struggled for over a year to meet its projection of producing 5,000 cars per week, which led to delays in fulfilling customer reservations. Tesla must enhance its manufacturing processes by investing in advanced automation technology to address this. This would reduce labor costs, minimize errors, and accelerate production, allowing Tesla to produce more vehicles at a lower cost and faster pace, potentially outpacing other car manufacturers in mass production. As a result, Tesla could reduce prices, making its cars more appealing to a broader market. Additionally, sharing R&D costs with other Musk-owned companies allows Tesla to reduce exposure to market fluctuations, build partnerships, and dominate tech-focused industries. By leveraging companies that Musk already owns, Tesla can share the financial risks associated with innovation, making this a defensive strategy. To capitalize on the opportunities and strengthen Tesla’s industrial battery production, other electric car manufacturers may need to rely on Tesla’s batteries due to their portfolios’ lack of equivalent technology or production capacity. Tesla could also apply its battery expertise in other commercial and personal applications to maintain its leadership in the renewable energy industry. With Gigafactories already established in Europe, the USA, and Shanghai, this is an offensive strategy, as it builds on Tesla’s existing infrastructure and taps into the growing market for sustainable energy (365 Financial Analyst, 2023; Center for Community Health and Development, 2024). Improving factory automation and lowering cost production opportunities is ranked first because fixing production issues with better automation will cut costs, speed up production, and increase profits. Expanding industrial battery production is ranked second because it uses Tesla’s current knowledge and gigafactories to be a source for other car companies and boost sales in commercial and personal industries. Sharing R&D costs with other Musk-owned companies ranks third because it mainly helps manage their costs and reduces financial risks.

Reference

365 Financial Analyst. It would give them the upper hand compared to Ford or Chevrolet because they innovated their own mechanism and their own identity in the electronic industry. They have potentially the most evolved concept compared to the other automotive brands. The strategic opportunity would be offensive because their main identity or reputation is how unique their design and concept is. They recently designed and produced the cyber truck which became another option for the buyer to consider if they want something bigger. The second opportunity would be expanding to other products as they are slowly expanding into other areas such as the astronomy section or the needed charging stations for its vehicles. The strategic opportunity would be having the support from different industries to help build the empire that Tesla is. They have the capital and reputation to take over other parts of industries while building on top of their empire which is Tesla. The strategic opportunity would be offensive because they are trying to not just be known for electric vehicles but other mechanisms such as the charging stations. It would provide the opportunity to expand their business into other areas due to already having the foundation from the electric vehicles. It leads to the third opportunity which would be merging all of the side companies into one big giant organization with different backgrounds. The strategic opportunity would be getting stronger on the market from astronomy to the engineering aspect by knowing how their battery works and being able to provide the charging stations to recharge the batteries by not having to contract with different company. The strategic opportunity be defensive because by merging into one company it would cover up the weaknesses of all the companies by taking something from each company and implementing it as it may fix a weakness.

I would rank the three identified opportunities in terms of the potential to add value to Tesla in the same order because knowing down the line the vehicles will potentially change into electric and probably for Tesla it feels good that when the time comes they are ready to compete in the industry. It is good to focus on one concept before moving into a totally different field because you want to master one plan in order to have the foundation to start the next chapter. Sometimes when you start a particular business the light bulb turns on and you start to develop other ideas that will help in developing the original plan. Finally, when you have all cylinders working it is a good idea to merge all companies to strengthen your identity and become a overall dominant brand.

Please reply to the following two classmates discussion post each reply only needs to be 125 words- I will provide the orginal assignment below as well: Orginal assignment: Identify three resulting strategic opportunities that the company (Tesla) might consider.
