In many ways, this 2,500-word essay is the heart of the course. Students should give an account of their mission as it relates to the mission of the God who is Father, Son, and Spirit and has created, reconciled, and redeemed the world. Special attention should be given to the way in which your academic field of study or major fits with the Christian understanding of God\u2019s call to his people. In developing the essay, you should consider the following questions (as well as the questions that introduce each section\u2019s reading questions):<\/p>\n

  1. What does it mean to claim that God is triune and how does this bear upon human life?<\/li>\n
  2. How might the biblical teaching regarding creation help you understand what your prospective work is for in God\u2019s world?<\/li>\n
  3. How will your work impact creation? How will your work impact other creatures, especially humans?<\/li>\n
  4. How might your work participate in creation\u2019s rebellion against the creator or idolatry?<\/li>\n
  5. How might your work participate in and God\u2019s work to redeem and renew creation?<\/li>\n
  6. How could you proclaim the gospel and share knowledge of God in your work?<\/li>\n
  7. How could you share in God\u2019s mission of reconciling love aimed at covenant-communion through your work?<\/li>\n
  8. What sort of power does your field use and how could that be used for \u201cgodly rule\u201d? How could your work participate in God\u2019s justice (\u201csetting right the world\u201d)?<\/li>\n
  9. How could your work bring fruitfulness, peace, life, and human flourishing?<\/li>\n
  10. In short, how could your work participate in the mission of the Triune God?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    While this is intended to be a personal and reflective essay, its primary academic purpose is to assess your understanding of the course and ability to apply this understanding to your life. So, please demonstrate your grasp of the course by engaging with the course material.
