This is the first part of a project that will continue in later units.<\/span>
Throughout this course, you will be basing your assignments on a<\/span>
hypothetical project for a nonprofit organization. You will not only serve<\/span>
as the founder of the nonprofit organization but also as the project manager<\/span>
for the various projects that are needed. Nonprofit organizations often use<\/span>
projects to complete important aspects of the organization and to help the<\/span>
nonprofit to be successful. You have decided that it is time to focus on<\/span>
raising money.<\/span>

<\/span>
You are tasked with organizing a large fundraising event. For the first part<\/span>
of the project, you will choose one of the three major organizational<\/span>
structures to associate with your nonprofit. The structure you choose to<\/span>
associate with your nonprofit is up to you, but keep in mind that it will<\/span>
continue to be the environment for your project as you complete the<\/span>
remaining assignments in this course. You should provide an overview of each<\/span>
of the three types of organizational structures and explain why you have<\/span>
chosen the structure you selected.<\/span>

Next, you will write a proposal you can deliver to the organization’s board<\/span>
of directors and additional stakeholders to help them understand the<\/span>
project.<\/span>
<\/span>
<\/span>
<\/span>
Finally, at a minimum, your proposal must also accomplish the following:<\/span>
<\/span>
<\/span>
<\/span>
*    Provide an overview of the scope of the project and a summary of the<\/span>
main deliverables of the project by creating a brief work breakdown<\/span>
structure (WBS).<\/span>
*    Identify all key stakeholders.<\/span>
*    Determine the project team members, the resources needed for the<\/span>
project, and where the event will be held.<\/span>
*    Explain how communication will take place within the team and with<\/span>
stakeholders by creating a communication chart.<\/span>
*    Provide details on how you will manage the various stakeholders as<\/span>
the project progresses.<\/span>

Your proposal should also include two appendices.<\/span>

Appendix 1 will consist of a visual strategy map that includes the elements<\/span>
below:<\/span>

<\/span>

*    Business need: Explain what is prompting this project and the need<\/span>
for action. Summarize why this is considered a project and not a task.<\/span>
*    Analysis of the situation: Identify the organization’s strategies,<\/span>
goals, and objectives.<\/span>
*    Recommendations: Explain why the project should be undertaken and<\/span>
how it will meet organizational goals.<\/span>
*    Evaluation: Describe the plan for measuring the benefits the project<\/span>
will deliver.<\/span>

A visual representation of the strategy map and a narrative explanation of<\/span>
the strategy map are both required in Appendix 1.<\/span>

Appendix 2 will consist of the following information, in which you will<\/span>
consider the 5Ws and 1H of project management:<\/span>

<\/span>
<\/span>
*    Identify the project team members and indicate why each member was<\/span>
chosen.<\/span>
*    Discuss how you will build team unity within the project team.<\/span>
*    Describe how the team will work together (in person, virtually,<\/span>
etc.).<\/span>
*    Discuss how the team will manage the stakeholders and communicate<\/span>
with them throughout the project.<\/span>

This assignment must be at least seven pages in length:<\/span>
