PRP-4015 Truncated Research Report (40%) Guidelines
\nYou are required to write a truncated practical report containing a title page, abstract,
\nresults, and discussion sections along with a reference section, and appendix. Please note
\nthat you pay particular attention to the presentation of your report. This report is worth
\n40% of the total mark for the module. Ensure that the report is correctly formatted in APA
\nstyle. Getting the presentation right may require rewrites, so be prepared and plan your
\ntime carefully.
\nThere is only one dataset to use for this semester. This data is available in the Truncated
\nResearch Report folder under the Assessments tab on Blackboard. You should use this data
\nto conduct a two-way between-groups ANOVA.
\nThe Dataset:
\nThe dataset is part of data collected by Project Implicit. The dependent variable in the
\ndataset is a measure of implicit bias. You can learn more about implicit bias on this

\nThe dataset provided here is from the Race IAT, where participants were asked to categorise
\nWhite and Black faces as well as positive and negative words. The variables are as follows:
\nIndependent Variable: Month \u2013 3 levels
\n\uf0b7 May \u2013 data collected from 1-5 May 2020 \u2013 IAT scores before George Floyd\u2019s murder
\n\uf0b7 June \u2013 data collected from 1-5 June 2020 \u2013 IAT scores immediately after George
\nFloyd\u2019s murder
\n\uf0b7 September \u2013 data collected from 1-5 September 2020 \u2013 IAT scores a few months
\nafter George Floyd\u2019s murder
\nIndependent Variable: Race of Participant \u2013 8 levels
\nIndependent Variable: Political Identity of Participant \u2013 7 levels
\nDependent Variable: IAT D Score
\n\uf0b7 Ranges from -2.00 to +2.00
\no Scores between -0.15 and +0.15 are indicative of no association bias
\no Scores between \u00b10.15 and \u00b10.36 are indicative of slight association bias
\no Scores between \u00b10.36 and \u00b10.65 are indicative of moderate association bias
\no Scores between \u00b10.65 and \u00b12.00 are indicative of strong association bias
\n\uf0b7 Whether the score is positive or negative determines who association bias favours
\no Negative scores indicate positive association bias in favour of black people
\no Positive scores indicate positive association bias in favour of white people.
\nChoosing Your Analysis
\nChoose the data that are interesting to you and generate a specific hypothesis based on
\nthose data. You should conduct a literature review to justify your research question. You will
\nneed to provide some information about the IAT in your report. You will need to conduct a
\nsingle two-way between-groups ANOVA and report the results.
\nYour report should contain the following elements:
\nTitle Page
\nThe title should be on a separate page along with the word count. See APA manual Section
\n2.3 & Figure 2.1 for examples of an APA formatted title page. However, do not include your
\nname, as the reports are marked anonymously. You must have a sensible descriptive title
\n(not \u2018Research Report\u2019).
\nAbstract (250 words max)
\nThe abstract should also be on a separate page and has the heading \u201cAbstract\u201d. The abstract
\nhas to briefly cover all \u201cmajor components\u201d of the project, i.e., background, summary of
\nmain results, and main conclusions. Note that this should be the LAST thing you write when
\nwriting a research report as it is a summary of the whole report. See APA manual for an
\nexample.
\nResults (2 pages max)
\nThis section should include the descriptive statistics (means and standard deviations) for
\neach variable and the results of the appropriate inferential statistical test (e.g., ANOVA). All
\nstatistics should be presented in APA format.
\nYou should also include a table OR a figure which illustrates your findings. Please use either
\na table or a figure (e.g. a bar chart), but not both. Tables or figures must be appropriately
\nlabelled and formatted according to APA standards, i.e. please do not copy and paste them
\ndirectly from SPSS. Please place the figure directly into the results section, not in an
\nappendix, and refer to it in the main text.
\nDiscussion (2 pages max)
\nThis section follows on from the Results with no page break and has the heading
\n\u201cDiscussion\u201d. First, you should describe the results in relation to the research question you
\nset out to investigate. Are your findings what you expected?
\nThen, broaden your discussion to consider how your results relate to previous research and
\ntheory. Are your findings consistent \/ inconsistent with the results of previous studies?
