“Google Case Presentation”<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span>One of the most important things managers and leaders do is analyze potential strategy<\/span>
argue for what to do or not to do. Consultants and Directors often have to assemble proposals<\/span>
within a week or two unexpectedly while still keeping all other work going. This signature activity<\/span>
is your guided, safe sandbox to develop and practice this skill. You will be put into case teams<\/span>
<\/p>\n
based the CLASS results to engage in this activity. You and your team will develop a clear<\/span>
understanding of the company assigned to you then present it. This presentation gives you a<\/span>
chance to apply technology policy strategic analysis widely. Proposals create policy and set<\/span>
strategy in motion. Every case presentation needs to make at least two technology strategy<\/span>
recommendations and justify them based on the analysis presented by your team. At least one<\/span>
recommendation needs to be something the company should start, continue, or enhance. At<\/span>
least one need to be something the company should stop\/spin off. Some of the companies are<\/span>
quite large. Be sure to research thoroughly. Begin with the materials in our textbook. The case<\/span>
presentation should last at least 15 minutes. Depending on how many teammates you have,<\/span>
each person will have one or more of the following roles. Cover them all. Consider assigning<\/span>
one or two people to each to 1-4 with everyone tasked with 5 (though you may want to assign a<\/span>
lead for 5). Ultimately, every team member is responsible for the entire product.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span>1.<\/span> <\/span>Lookup and summarize the recent patents filed by your company<\/span><\/div>\n

working on. Consider benchmarking against competitors also to see if they are relatively<\/span>
more or less productive and active. For larger companies, you may want to limit this to a<\/span>
specific product category or technology domain.<\/span>

2.<\/span> <\/span>Network through LinkedIn, personal connections of team or class members, or other<\/span>
means to interview one or more people in the company\/industry\/product market you are<\/span>
examining related to your company. Seek answers to some of your questions about what<\/span>
the company\u2019s strategy is and how they manage their internal technology workforce.<\/span>
What is it like working at the company? How is morale? (Check Glassdoor too. Human<\/span>
resources drive innovation.) What is the innovation climate? Are there emerging<\/span>
solutions coming that have not hit the news? What does the person think will be<\/span>
important in their work and products in the near future? Are they aware of emerging data<\/span>
opportunities? What are they? What about data security and risks issues? If they are<\/span>
willing to be on record, get a picture of them and share their name. If not, you can cite<\/span>
them as an anonymous source but be sure to clarify who they work for and generally<\/span>
how long they have been there and in what capacities.<\/span>
