Art Appreciation, Extra Point Opportunities<\/span><\/p>\n

These are extra point opportunities, if you do not choose to complete any of them, they will not count against you.  <\/span><\/p>\n

Extra point videos:<\/span><\/p>\n

I am offering you several opportunities to earn extra points throughout <\/span><\/span>the semester.<\/span> <\/span>With all of these opportunities, there is really no reason you do not pass this course.<\/span> <\/span> I will offer <\/span><\/span>4 <\/span><\/span>extra video assignments.  These extra video assignments wi<\/span>ll be done just like your regular<\/span> <\/span>video assignments, ho<\/span>wever, instead of being worth 25<\/span> <\/span>poin<\/span>ts, they will only be worth 10.<\/span> <\/span> Obviously these are optional, y<\/span>ou do not have to complete them, but if you do end up needing a few extra points, they will be available for you.<\/span> <\/span> Just like the regular video assignments, once the due date is passed, it will no longer<\/span> <\/span>be available.<\/span><\/p>\n

The extra point video assignments only need to be 200 words in length.  To receive the full 10 extra points you must have 200 words or more in your paper.  You must have a minimum of 100 words to receive 5 extra points.  If you do not have a minimum of 100 words you will not receive any extra credit for the assignment.<\/span><\/p>\n

TICE videos:<\/span> <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

The TICE videos are different than the other extra point videos.  There are six of these offered at different times throughout the semester.  Each of these is only about 5 to 10 minutes long.  You will need to watch the video and then leave a three to five sentence comment in the assignment page.  You will need to complete three of these to receive 5 extra points at the end of the semester.  You will need to complete all six to receive 10 extra points at the end of the semester.  These will not be graded till the end of the semester.  <\/span><\/p>\n

Museum<\/span> <\/span>or gallery crawl<\/span> <\/span>visit<\/span>:<\/span> <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

 I will also be offering another opportunity to earn 10 extra poin<\/span>ts by visiting a museum<\/span> <\/span>or <\/span><\/span>gallery Crawl.  This can be local or if you happen to visit a museum in another <\/span><\/span>city that<\/span> <\/span>will be fine too.  <\/span> <\/span> You will only be<\/span> <\/span>able complete this assignment once.<\/span><\/p>\n

This course is an introduction to the world of visual art.  The best way to experience that world is to go out and see it firsthand.  Now I know that some of you have gone to an art museum or gallery, but I do have some students every semester that have never been to an art museum or event ever.  So, this is your opportunity.  I am including a list of <\/span><\/span>local <\/span><\/span>museums that you can visit at any time throughout the semester.  To get the extra poin<\/span>ts, you will need to type a 200 <\/span><\/span>word paper telling me about your experience.  You wi<\/span>ll need to discuss a minimum of <\/span><\/span>two works of art you saw during this visit. <\/span><\/span><\/span>Also, this must me a museum visit that took place during this current semester.  <\/span>You will find this in the extra point module and it will be available for you to submit a paper at any time throughout the entire semester.<\/span><\/p>\n

Masur<\/span> <\/span>Museum of Art:<\/span><\/p>\n

This is the local art museum.  It is located at 1400 S Grand St. Monroe, La. <\/span><\/span>Admission is free.  The museum is open Tuesday \u2013 Friday, 9 am to 5 pm, Saturday noon to 5 pm, and closed on Sunday and Monday.  Phone number (318) 329-2237.  They typically have rotating exhibits.<\/span><\/p>\n

The African American Museum:<\/span><\/p>\n

It is located at 1051 Chennault Park Dr. Monroe, La.  I am not sure the hours that they are open.  The phone number is (318) 342-8889.  <\/span><\/p>\n

Ruston Artisans:<\/span><\/p>\n

It is located at 203 W Alabama Ave, Ruston, La.  They are open Friday 10 am \u2013 4pm<\/span>,  Wednesday<\/span> <\/span>10 am- 5 pm, Thursday 10am- 5 pm, and then closed Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.   The phone number is (318) 254-3322.<\/span><\/p>\n

R. W, Norton Art Gallery:<\/span><\/p>\n

It is located at 4747 Creswell Ave, Shreveport, La. 71106.  The hours of operation are Friday 1 -7pm, Saturday 1- 7pm, Sunday 1- 5pm.  They are closed Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  Their phone number is (318) 865-4201.  This is a very impressive and beautiful museum.  <\/span><\/p>\n

Mississippi Museum of Art:  <\/span><\/p>\n

It is located at 380 S Lamar St, Jackson, MS 39201.  Their hours of operation are Friday 10am- 5 pm, Saturday 10 am- 5pm, Sunday 12- 5pm, Thursday 10 am- 5pm.  They are closed on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  Their phone number is (601) 960- 1515.  This is a beautiful and impressive museum.  <\/span><\/p>\n

I am not sure if any of the Galleries or Museums mentioned above charge a fee.  You may <\/span><\/span>want to call before you go, just to make sure.  <\/span><\/p>\n

Downtown Gallery Crawl:<\/span><\/p>\n

T<\/span>he first Thursday of every even <\/span><\/span>numbered <\/span><\/span><\/a>month<\/span> <\/span>the local artists in Monroe and West Monroe open their gallery doors to the public.  This is a one night event and begins a 5:00pm and ends at 9:00pm.  There are usually around 6 to 8 galleries open during this event with a large variety of art to view.  This if a fun event, there is sometimes music, food, and free beer for those old enough (<\/span>till the beer runs out that is).  This is a family friendly event, dress is casual, and free to the public.  The galleries are located on Art Alley and Monroe and Trenton <\/span><\/span>Street<\/span> <\/span>in West Monroe.  The months this will be available are: December, February, April, June, August, and October.  To get extra points from this you need to visit 5 galleries and get a signature from someone associated from each of the galleries.  They know I do this, so they <\/span><\/span>won\u2019t<\/span> <\/span>be surprised when you ask for a signature.  <\/span>You will need to send me a photo of this in a message sent through canvas.  <\/span><\/p>\n

One last extra point opportunity is available to you.  I will be giving you an assessment quiz to complete the first week of class.  This is just for my assessment purposes, do not worry if you do badly.  I will be <\/span><\/span>giving you this same assessment quiz during the week of finals.  I hope that you will do better the second time you take it.  You will receive an extra 10 points for completing both of these.  <\/span><\/p>\n

You should also take note that each test has 34 questions all worth 3 points apiece.  That will make the total grade for each test 102 points.  This will allow you to miss one question and make a 99 grade, which is pretty close to 100.  If you do get everything correct on your test, the 2 points will just be considered extra points.  You could earn a total of 10 extra points this way as well, if you get all the questions correct on all of the tests.  <\/span><\/p>\n

These can be really helpful to you if you need them.  You need to be diligent however.  Each video will only be available for you to do for one week, and then it will be gone.  Don\u2019t wait till the end of the semester to realize you need a few extra points to make the grade you want.  If you do, they may not be available for you at that time.  <\/span><\/p>\n

Also take note that the extra point assignments are put into the course as a 10 out of 10 point grade.  It needs to be a 10 out of 0 point grade.  I don\u2019t know how to put those in for them to be graded correctly.  I will manually average your grade at the end of the semester.  The extra point assignments may not seem to do much for your grade when you are looking for it in canvas, but when manually averaged in, they really help.  <\/span><\/p>\n
