  3. Review the Three C\u2019s: the content, the context, and the needs of the individual child.<\/li>\n
  4. Content<\/span> – How does this help children learn, engage, express, imagine, or explore?<\/li>\n
  5. Context<\/span> – What kinds of social interactions (such as conversations with parents or peers) are happening before, during, and after the use of the technology? Does it complement and not interrupt children\u2019s learning experiences and natural play patterns?<\/li>\n
  6. The Individual Child<\/span> – What does this child need right now to enhance their growth and development? Is this technology an appropriate match with this child\u2019s needs, abilities, interests, and development stage? (Department of Education, 2022).<\/li>\n
  7. Video Presentation: <\/span><\/li>\n
  8. Your video presentation will provide parents and families with developmentally appropriate distance learning tips and techniques, including when and how children can use the computer safely based on the Three C\u2019s.<\/li>\n
  9. You want parents and families to understand there are safety risks for young preschoolers online even though they will be exposed to fewer risks than older preschoolers using the internet independently.<\/li>\n
  10. Write an outline for your presentation following the guidelines below. You may create a PowerPoint presentation, if you find it helpful. However, the presentation document is not a requirement for this assignment.<\/li>\n

  13. Professionalism:<\/span> Use professional language and a professional appearance (i.e., hair, clothing, voice and tone, organized and neat background\/environment)<\/li>\n
  14. Introduction:<\/span> Imagine you are the teacher and your video viewers are parents. Begin your video with an introduction: Introduce yourself, your name, your current role in the early learning program, your experience working with children and families, and include other information you feel relevant to share.<\/li>\n
  15. Computer Safety:<\/span> Introduce the families to three of the six computer safety topics below.<\/li>\n
  16. Three C\u2019s:<\/span> Address the Three C\u2019s as they relate to each topic.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

Always use computer or other digital tools, educational apps, digital media, and the internet with younger preschool children<\/span> or make sure you are close by and aware of what the child is doing online. This way you can act quickly if your child is concerned or upset by something they have seen.<\/li>\n
    2. Check the age-appropriateness of the computer software.<\/span> All children’s programs and games are clearly labeled with the age group they are suitable for. Avoid using software that is not suited to your child’s age group. Even if your child is smart, the software may introduce them to concepts they are not yet ready to learn about.<\/li>\n
    3. In the case of young children’s computer software or digital devices, ensure that it uses pictures or voice commands to tell the child what to do.<\/span> A young preschooler\u2019s software that makes use of written commands means that younger children may not understand them. Pictures or voices are also more likely to engage younger children and keep them interested in the program.<\/li>\n
    4. Be sure to check privacy settings, use parental controls, block in-app purchases, disable one-click payment options and location services<\/span> on your computer and internet-connected toys and materials. Additionally, be sure to limit camera and video functions.<\/li>\n
    5. Always use child-friendly search engines<\/span> like Kiddle or Kidtopia, or content providers like ABC Kids, CBeebies, YouTube Kids or KIDOZ (RCN, 2022).<\/li>\n
    6. Select computer software or digital devices that encourages children to use their imagination.<\/span> For example, computer software program that allows children to make their own stories, draw, or paint can help foster creativity and bring out the artist in a child. You can even print out a copy of creations and hang them in their room (India Parenting, 2021).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
