\ntogether a document highlighting the key areas of reform. Where do you begin? Will you
\nconduct research? What is the first thing you are going to do? What are the starting points of
\nsuch a project? Will you be involving other parties in the development of the curriculum and if
\nso, who and why?<\/p>\n

Write down some ideas about tackling this project using the questions above as prompts, as
\nwell as anything else you want to include.
\nDo some research to support your approach. Once you have your resources together create a
\nMind Map that will help illustrate your ideas. Use the contents from this Unit to help inform
\nyour work.

Here is an example of how to get started:
\nAs a curriculum developer for Grade 10 high school English, I would begin by organizing the
\nfollowing 3 details:
\n\u2022 I would like to spend some time looking at the current Grade 10 English curriculum
\ndocument
\n\u2022 I would like to organize a sub-committee made up of teachers, parents, administrators
\n\u2022 I would like to conduct a research project involving Grade 10 students studying their
\nissues\/concerns with the current curriculum
\nAs a grade 10 English teacher here in Ontario Canada, I would need to spend some time
\nstudying current policy. Though I have been teaching it for many years, I feel I do not have a
\nstrong grasp of the objectives. We have a literacy test for students in Grade 10 that measures
\ntheir knowledge of Grade 9 subjects and with this standardized test in play, I feel as if English
\nteaching has become more of preparing students for the test rather than instilling critical
\nthinking skills and knowledge-based learning. A sub-committee would help me determine how
\nthe adults feel about Grade 10 English. Asking students may also help me determine how the
\nstudents feel about the test, the classroom experience and the teaching skills of me and other
\nGrade 10 English teachers.<\/p>\n

  Part 2 \u2013  Throughout Uniit you will work on the following:
\nUsing the tool you chose for collaboration, meet with your team and share your work from Unit
\n3. <\/div>\n
Review each other\u2019s work and begin asking pertinent questions to develop your ideas
\nfurther. For example, after hearing the ideas above, discuss thoughts, questions, and ideas with
\nyour team, including:
\n\u2022 What specific timelines will you use? <\/div>\n
\u2022 How long would you and or your committee need work together?
\n\u2022 How many teachers do you want on your committee? <\/div>\n
Your goal here is to work together to refine and strengthen your plans. Once the exchange is
\ncomplete, revise your original plan. <\/div>\n
Assume that you and your group are working together to
\nsubmit one, unified document that outlines tackling Curriculum Reform across subject matters. <\/div>\n
Your goal is to take your document and the documents of your team and create a subject-bysubject proposal. <\/div>\n
You will want to figure out how to consistently display the information so
\nthat the document you submit looks consistent and professional.
\nIn Unit 6 you should have the above part wrapped up and then, as a group, create a reflection
\non the process. <\/div>\n
The written reflection should describe what your group learned from the
\nexchange. Discuss the feedback you received and the revision process and perhaps, describe
\nany obstacles and points of negotiation. <\/div>\n
The reflection should take into account the
\nexperiences of all group members and should be submitted as the first page of your document.
\nIn total, you should be submitting at least an 8-12 page report exclusive of title page
\nand reference page. <\/div>\n
This is an experiential exercise and has a two-fold purpose. You will be, , critically
\nreflecting on how your curriculum reform project unfolds. In this way, you can collectively
\nquestion and expand upon the curriculum development process based on our knowledge and
\nexperiences as educators, practitioners, and teachers.<\/div>\n
 By creating this reflection you each may
\nobtain a better sense of what negotiations may\/may not take place when curriculum
\ndevelopment committees are formed. In this simulated scenario, you want to dialogue the
\nprocess, perceptions, and assumptions. <\/div>\n
\u2022 The paper should be 8-12 pages in length.
\n\u2022 The report must be double-spaced using Times New Roman, 12 point font and have a
\nreference list at the end inclusive of all sources used in the individual plans plus
\nrevisions and any addition sources used  and anything used to help inform
\nyour reflection. <\/div>\n
\u2022 Check all content for grammar, spelling and to be sure that you have properly cited all
\nresources (in APA format) used.
