Perhaps it is why are there so few women who serve in party leadership, or why the state has embraced democratic socialism, or why are coups frequent. In this part, the sky’s the limit. <\/span><\/span>By May 19, I expect you to share with me your initial question<\/strong>, so I can review and help refine the question you propose to research.<\/span>
The hypothesis<\/strong>
A good portion of your paper should provide background information about your question. If you are looking at women in the legislature, I would want to see you write about the history of women serving in your nation’s legislature. You may also want to look at how the rates of women serving in similar or neighboring countries. You may want to look at candidates. Whatever you do, I want to see sufficient information that leads you to a <\/span><\/span>well-developed, well-informed hypothesis.<\/span> <\/span>
I do expect you to do some research to get this background information. Google Scholar is your friend. The databases I have introduced you to over the course of the quarter are your friend. <\/span>
The research method<\/strong>
Finally, I want you to think about which research methods you would use to answer your question. Would you do a single case study? Would you compare one or two states? Would you want to compare many states? Would you use existing data? Do you need to conduct interviews? Do you need to analyze primary source materials? I want you to both describe the method and respond to the methodological questions and concerns that you read about in chapter 1 of your text and we talked about in week 1. <\/span>
