One of the purposes of this course is to help students <\/span>identify<\/span> sources that can be trusted when studying Church history.<\/span> This learning activity is designed to help you know how to discern how trustworthy a given source is or is not. We will be using part of a book entitled “Real vs. Rumor: How to Dispel Latter-day Myths” written by Dr. Keith Erekson, Director of Historical Research and Outreach at the Church History Library in Salt Lake City. <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Determine<\/span> what we know and how we know it concerning the First Vision, how the Book of Mormon was translated, and the Restoration of the Aaronic and Melchizedek Priesthood.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

STEP 1:<\/span><\/span> Review <\/span><\/span>chapter 2 of “Real vs. Rumor”<\/span><\/span> Download chapter 2 of “Real vs. Rumor”.<\/span> <\/span><\/span>(sent as an <\/span>attachment) <\/span><\/span>Pay<\/span> particular attention to Dr. Erekson’s method of (a) <\/span>identifying what we know, and (b) explaining how we know it. <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
