How can the career advising services be improved to support students in residency placement at medical schools?<\/span>

Purpose Statement:<\/span>

The purpose of this study is to provide recommendations on how to improve career advising services to support students in residency placement at medical schools.<\/span>

Problem Statement:<\/span>

The problem is that “students do not feel prepared for the residency they matched in after career advising services were offered in years 1 to 4\u201d (Dr. XXXXX, personal communication, March 14, 2024).<\/span>
<\/div>\n

Three research methods are as follows:<\/p>\n

Approach 1: Semi-structured
\ninterviews<\/span><\/p>\n

The first approach will be
\nsemi-structured interviews conducted with at least five faculty administrators
\noverseeing residency placement at medical schools.<\/span><\/p>\n

Approach 2:  <\/span>Focus Groups<\/span><\/p>\n

The second approach will be one focus
\ngroup using open-ended questions.  <\/span>The participants
\nwill be a group of six medical students who utilized career advising services
\nduring their application to the residency process.  <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Approach 3:  <\/span>Quantitative surveys<\/span><\/p>\n

The third approach will be a
\nquantitative survey using the Google Forms platform. The participants will be a
\nminimum of 25 students selected from the fourth-year class and have not been
\nincluded in any other approach indicated above.<\/span><\/p>\n
