Biography<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

To maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Nursing
\nand Midwifery Council (NMC) Code <\/span>(Nursing and Midwifery
\nCouncil, 2018)<\/span><\/span>, the patient will be identified as \u201cJenifer\u201d and
\n\u201cSarah\u201d. Consent was consistently obtained from the patient while providing
\ncare and prior to composing this essay.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jenifer a 32-year-old woman was brought to the
\nhospital by her concerned roommate \u201cSarah\u201d name (actual name withheld) who is
\naware of Jenifer\u2019s mental health history as they have discussed it openly
\ntogether before and also share a deep and supportive friendship. <\/span>She
\nnoticed the gradual change in Jenifer’s behaviour and mood, leading to her
\ndecision to seek help for Jenifer during this crisis. Jenifer had been
\nexperiencing symptoms of depression for the past year, including persistent
\nsadness, fatigue, changes in appetite, and social withdrawal, these are
\ndepression symptoms as suspected by Jenifer <\/span>(Almeida et al.<\/i>,
\n2022)<\/span><\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Jenifer
\nwas initially assessed in the emergency department. Given the severity of her
\ndepressive symptoms and the presence of passive thoughts of self-harm, the
\nmedical team decided to admit her to the hospital’s psychiatric ward for
\nfurther evaluation and treatment. She was directed to the hospital’s inpatient
\npsychiatric unit, where she could receive specialized care for her mental
\nhealth condition. She was later diagnosed with major depressive disorder. As documented
\nby Tiago (2023), major depression is characterized by a range of symptoms
\nincluding anhedonia, hopelessness, reduced motivation, insomnia or hypersomnia,
\nweight gain or loss, mood instability, irritability, despondency, sadness and
\nsuicidal ideation <\/span>(Tiago, 2023)<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n
