English 205-Final Project: Annotated Bibliography<\/span><\/p>\n

Audience:<\/span> Academic scholars, including your peers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Background:<\/span><\/p>\n

For the Final Project this semester, you will be asked to engage in the type of research that you might encounter as an academic scholar. For the purposes of this project, select a topic of interest about which you will be able to find scholarly\/peer-reviewed sources. Examples might include anything related to the authors we have read this semester (Limerick, Berger, Freire, Percy) or the subjects we have encountered (American Indians, war, art, access to art, reproduction, etc.) or your field of study (biology, history, psychology, sociology) or anything else that might prove of interest to scholars (you may want to research to see what subjects you can find research about).<\/span><\/p>\n

Annotated Bibliography<\/span><\/p>\n

The annotated bibliography is a frequent assignment for scholars. It requires students to research, read, summarize and connect the source to a potential project.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

Note:<\/span> Although you should have a final project in mind, you will not need to write a paper about it. The Annotated Bibliography entries will provide the exercise in thinking about a topic, researching sources, reading and writing about the sources for this assignment.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

Project Steps and Format:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span>  <\/span>EMPHASIS HERE::::: Research your topic and find ten (10) scholarly\/peer-reviewed articles about the subject. Be sure that the articles meet the criteria for scholarly articles covered earlier this semester.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7EMPHASIS HERE:::::::::<\/span>  <\/span>\t<\/span><\/span>Write an entry for each source; each entry should be 150-200 words in length.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span>  <\/span>\t<\/span><\/span>The total length for the entries (excluding the citation) should be approximately 1500-2000 words.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span>  <\/span>\t<\/span><\/span>Each entry should be placed on a separate page of the same word doc (the entire doc should be at least 10 pages in length).<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span>  <\/span>\t<\/span><\/span>Alphabetize the entire list (A-Z), so any A entries would come before G entries.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span>  <\/span>\t<\/span><\/span>Each entry should be in the following format:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span>\t<\/span><\/span>title of the article (titles in quotation marks)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span>\t<\/span><\/span>publication source (journal, website-these titles are placed in italics)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span>\t<\/span><\/span>a brief evaluation of the author(s), their background and\/or authority in the subject<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span>\t<\/span><\/span>a brief summary of the article\u2019s main purpose<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span>\t<\/span><\/span>a brief summary of the article\u2019s findings<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span>\t<\/span><\/span>a comment on the intended audience<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span>\t<\/span><\/span>how this article connects to your topic or how you might use it for your paper<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span>\t<\/span><\/span>At least four (4) of the annotations should compare or contrast the article to another source on the list; this could be in terms of purpose, findings, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span>  <\/span>\t<\/span><\/span>Include the two annotated bibliography entries submitted separately (so, you will only need to write eight more); be sure to look at any notes I made about the annotation or citation and consider adding any of the information above that you may not have yet included.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span>  <\/span>\t<\/span><\/span>Each entry is worth 15 points, with 10 entries, for a total of 150 points<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span>  <\/span>\t<\/span><\/span>Each entry will be graded as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n

        <\/span>\t<\/span><\/span>5 points for an accurate, completely correct MLA 8th ed. Works Cited page entry.<\/span><\/p>\n

                    <\/span>\t<\/span><\/span>Points will be deducted for variations in the format.<\/span><\/p>\n

        <\/span>\t<\/span><\/span>10 points for a well-written, comprehensive annotated entry which includes the following:<\/span><\/p>\n

                    <\/span>\t<\/span><\/span>Addresses each of the elements mentioned above for each entry.<\/span><\/p>\n

                    <\/span>\t<\/span><\/span>Provides an ample annotation of the required length of at least 150 words.<\/span><\/p>\n

                    <\/span>\t<\/span><\/span>Appropriate sentence clarity, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.<\/span><\/p>\n

Maureen Collins, an English professor, in the article, \u201cReading Jane Austen Through the Lens of the Law: Legal Issues in Austen\u2019s Life and Novels,\u201d published in the <\/span>Journal of Art, Technology & Intellectual Property Law<\/span>, suggests that the legal issues that took place in the time of Jane Austen are worth noting about because of what they reveal about women and the law. Collins supports her suggestion by describing Jane Austen\u2019s life and the realities of 18th century England that Jane commonly based her novels on. The author\u2019s purpose is to inform readers of the upbringing of Jane Austen and the influences that were the foundation of her writing so that there is a better understanding as to why her novels have certain focal points. The author writes in an informal tone for the general audience who has an interest in the life and novels of the English novelist, Jane Austen. This source will help in writing the research paper by providing commentary from another person on behalf of Jane Austen\u2019s novels and the views that relate to her work.<\/span><\/p>\n
