We can see this happen time and time<br \/>\nagain, especially when analyzing the cases of Dred Scott v. Sanford, Plessy v.<br \/>\nFerguson, and Brown v. Board of Education. Although all of these were<br \/>\ndifferent cases that occurred in different time periods, they all<br \/>\naddressed the same issue of African Americans being not seen as equals who are<br \/>\nprotected under the Constitution.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; line-height: 200%; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 1.5em; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; line-height: 200%; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Dred Scott v. Sanford was a heavily problematic case that<br \/>\ntook place in the year of 1857. It questioned whether blacks, specifically<br \/>\ndescendants of slaves, could be considered American citizens whose rights<br \/>\nwould be protected under the constitution. At the time, many people believed<br \/>\nthat colored people were inferior beings who were unfit to associate with whites. In the document it says, \u201cBut it is too clear for dispute, that the<br \/>\nenslaved African race was not intended to be included, and formed no part of<br \/>\nthe people who framed and adopted this declaration;\u201d (535). The people saw the<br \/>\nDeclaration of independence as this perfect document which was written by the<br \/>\ngreat founding fathers. It had no flaws and since African Americans had no part<br \/>\nin the creation of it, the people believed that the document didn\u2019t apply to<br \/>\nthem. In the end, the Supreme Court ruled the case in favor of Sandford.
