 <\/span><\/p>\n

1. <\/span><\/span>Research Project<\/span><\/div>\n

The <\/span><\/span>paper<\/span> <\/span>will <\/span><\/span>include<\/span>:<\/span><\/p>\n

(i) <\/span><\/span>Introduction<\/span>:<\/span> <\/span>The main goal of this project. Start with a broad overview of the subject area and narrow down to your specific topic. State a hypothesis (it can be something that you will revise once you have all your data analysis).<\/span><\/div>\n
(ii) <\/span><\/span>Literature review<\/span>: Summary of the main findings in the literature <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

NOTE: <\/span><\/span>You<\/span> <\/span>will review <\/span><\/span>3 different SCHOLARLY articles<\/span> <\/span>in order to find out what research has been done on the topic already and what the main findings are. You will combine the main findings of your readings together for the presentation<\/span>. You can use one of the chapters\/articles from class and find two more in the Oviatt Library Database<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

(iii) <\/span><\/span>Methodology<\/span>:<\/span> <\/span>How you collected data, what kind of data, sampling population, tools of analysis, etc.  <\/span><\/div>\n
(iv) <\/span><\/span>Analysis:<\/span> <\/span><\/span>Results of data analysis and interpretations<\/span><\/div>\n
(v) <\/span><\/span>Conclusion\/Implications<\/span>:<\/span> <\/span>General reflections on the linguistic behaviors or dynamics reflecting gender or vice versa (or lack thereof).<\/span><\/div>\n

– <\/span><\/span>Language used by and\/or about women in the media (newspaper, radio, TV, movies, music)<\/span><\/div>\n
– <\/span><\/span>Gender differences in language use in the public sphere (Politics, Sports, etc.)<\/span><\/div>\n
– <\/span><\/span>Advertising<\/span> <\/span>and gender biased language <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
– <\/span><\/span>Socialization through language<\/span><\/div>\n
– <\/span><\/span>Gay and<\/span>\/or lesbian language<\/span><\/div>\n
– <\/span><\/span>any other relevant topic (e<\/span>.<\/span>g. approved by instructor)<\/span><\/div>\n
