Directions<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

  For this paper, you will need to pick your own argumentative topic.<\/p>\n

    \n
  • The topic must be something you choose to argue either for or against; it cannot just be an “informational” paper. It must be an argument paper.<\/li>\n
  • Email me the topic that you choose for your Argument Essay.  I will provide feedback about the topic that you have chosen.<\/li>\n
  • You must use 5-7 sources, type 5-7 pages, and include a Works Cited page.<\/li>\n
  • Use MLA format for in-text citations and the Works Cited page.<\/li>\n
  • Use 1 block quote in this essay.  Review the worksheet that I have uploaded to Canvas about quoting.<\/li>\n
  • The title should not only make your topic clear, but your point of view on that topic<\/li>\n
  • Don’t forget to put your name in a heading!<\/li>\n
  • Check Canvas and email for information about locating sources as well as resources from the ASU-Mid-South library.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Specific Requirements<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

    How well you meet these requirements determines your grade. A good argumentative essay will accomplish the following:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • Have a clearly stated thesis statement in the introduction<\/li>\n
    • Have an introduction which leads smoothly into the body<\/li>\n
    • Have clearly stated reasons<\/li>\n
    • Have direct explanation of why those reasons prove that your argument makes sense<\/li>\n
    • Make good use of a well-chosen, relevant academic sources, inserting them when needed but not going overboard<\/li>\n
    • Have all sources documented in the paper,<\/strong> right after they are used!<\/li>\n
    • Have logical connections between points<\/li>\n
    • Have clear, logical organization and transitioning<\/li>\n
    • Be focused – everything must go towards proving your thesis!<\/li>\n
    • Have a separate Works Cited page<\/strong> that lists your sources<\/strong> – papers without this will not be accepted<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
