These internal partisan divisions lead into America facing problems on the international stage, impacting its foreign policy consistency and credibility. This dissertation investigates the effects of partisan politics on America’s international actions, especially in the Middle East, and the neo-colonialist tendencies that can be intrinsically linked to these actions. By evaluating the U.S.’s role in undermining foreign sovereignty and democracy via economic, cultural, and military means, this study examines the implications for global leadership. It critically examines the conflict between internal power struggles and the U.S.’s international moral standing, with case studies on Afghanistan and Syria highlighting how American internal conflicts and neo-colonial ambitions destabilize its hegemony and moral authority globally.
