VANETs were developed to<br \/>\nbe incorporated into the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). Regarding Vehicular<br \/>\nad hoc <span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp;<\/span>networks (VANETs), the Federal<br \/>\nCommunications Commission (FCC) has assigned a particular band of 5.9 gigahertz<br \/>\n(GHZ) for Dedicated Short-Range Communications (DSRC). The Vehicle Adhoc<br \/>\nNetwork (VANET) is a subcategory of the Mobile Adhoc Network (MANET) that<br \/>\nfacilitates communication between automobiles using On-Board Units (OBUs)<br \/>\nconnected to a decentralized network. About this subject, the open wireless<br \/>\nchannels of VANET had a significant impact on the privacy and security concerns<br \/>\nthat were generated by the network. The purpose of this work is to investigate<br \/>\nthe academic literature about developing technologies and lightweight<br \/>\nauthentication methods in VANETs, with a particular emphasis on security flaws<br \/>\nand possible remedies. Furthermore, it does an analysis of the computational<br \/>\nand communication costs of these protocols in relation to the potential attacks<br \/>\nthat could be launched against them.
